摘要:
A bone graft composition includes a biologically-resorbable cement and a plurality of processed bone particles, where each of the bone particles have a shape configured to interconnect with adjacent bone particles. A method for treating a bone defect using the bone graft compositions includes providing the bone graft composition and administering an effective amount of the bone graft composition to a site of a bone defect in a subject. Kits including a biologically-resorbable cement powder and a plurality of processed bone particles are also provided.

A novel cell type has been generated that has both Th1 characteristics and cytolytic activity. These Th1/killer cells are CD4+ cells purified from peripheral blood and manipulated to have Th1 characteristics such as production of IFN-gamma combined with cytolytic activity similar to cytotoxic T-cells (CTL). The CTL activity is targeted toward diseased cells, not normal cells. The cytolytic activity of the Th1/killer cells is mediated by Granzyme B-Perforin mechanism and results in apoptotic death of diseased cells. Methods of producing and using these Th1/killer cells include isolating CD4+ cells from peripheral blood, activating the CD4+ T-cells to form Th1/killer cells and administering these Th1/killer cells with the cytolytic activity to a patient wherein the Th1/killer cells are allogeneic to the patient.

Protein concentrates and protein isolates, in addition to processes for the production of protein concentrates and protein isolates, are disclosed. In particular, the disclosure relates to a process for removing fiber from an oilseed meal, comprising: i) mixing an oilseed meal with a blending solvent, optionally water, saline solution, polysaccharide solution or protein containing solution, to form a mixture; ii) optionally adjusting the pH of the protein slurry to a pH of about 2 to about 10; and iii) separating the mixture to form a protein slurry comprising soluble and insoluble proteins and an insoluble fiber fraction.

The present invention relates to methods of suppressing the immune tolerance of a disease or disease antigens in a patient. The method also promotes the activity of the effector T lymphocytes. The invention includes administering a therapeutic composition that promotes a Th1 environment in the patient while decreasing the immunosuppressive activity of Treg cells that can lead to disease antigen tolerance and immunoavoidance of the disease antigens by the patient. The therapeutic composition includes allogeneic emTh-1 cells. The therapeutic composition can also include disease antigens such as the chaperone-rich cell lysate of the disease antigen.

Solid pharmaceutical taxane compositions for oral administration comprising a substantially amorphous taxane, a carrier and a surfactant, wherein the substantially amorphous taxane is prepared by a solvent evaporation method and, in particular, spray drying. Methods of preparation of the composition and uses of the composition are also included.

The invention relates to novel compositions and to novel methods for the administration of compositions to a patient or to cells in vitro for the treatment of human disorders. In one embodiment, compositions contain chemical compounds that stimulate the expression of fetal hemoglobin and/or stimulate the proliferation of red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets in patients and ex vivo for reconstitution of hematopoiesis in vivo . These methods are useful to treat or prevent the symptoms associated with anemia, sickle cell disease, thalassemia and other blood disorders. In another embodiment, compositions contain an inducing agent and an anti-viral agent. The inducing agent induces the expression of a cellular or viral product, such as viral thymidine kinase, increasing the sensitivity of proliferating cells to the anti-viral agent. Typical anti-viral agents include nucleoside analogs such as ganciclovir that inhibit viral replication. Methods involve administration of therapeutically effective amounts of the inducing agent with the anti-viral agent to destroy virus-infected cells. Viral infections that can be treated include infections by herpes viruses such as Kaposi's-associated herpes virus and Epstein-Barr virus, HIV infections and HTLV infections. These compositions and methods are particularly effective against episomal and latent infections in proliferating cells. The invention also relates to novel methods for the pulsed administration of compositions to patients for the treatment and prevention of cell proliferative disorders including deficiencies such as cytopenia and malignancies such as viral-induced tumors, other forms of neoplasia and for expansion of cells for hematopoietic transplantation.

Wood-type golf club heads include: (a) a club head body member defining an interior chamber; (b) a weight system engaged with a rear perimeter portion of the club head body member; and (c) a connection system connecting the weight system with the club head body (e.g., with the rear of the ball striking face portion). The club heads further may include one or more damping members in the interior chamber to alter the sound and/or otherwise attenuate a vibrational response of the club head. The damping members may extend between the ball striking face and the weight system, and optionally may engage the connection system. The damping member(s) may constitute a foam material compressed within the interior chamber of the club head. Methods of making such golf club head structures also are described.
