The method involved in the present invention is directed to the coating step where an assembled unit of the upper vehicle body and the under vehicle body is coated and the upper vehicle body section is separated from the under vehicle body after coating. In the vehicle body assembly step, the vehicle body is loaded on a jig unit (JU) disposed so as to be movable through stations (51-59) located along the vehicle body assembly line (BL). Upon loading the upper vehicle body on the jig unit (JU), the vehicle body is aligned with the jig unit (JU) on the basis of an inner member of a member for structuring the vehicle body with the aid of an aligning unit mounted to the jig unit (JU). After coating the assembled vehicle body unit, the unit is divided into the upper vehicle body and the under vehicle body, which are then processed in separate mounting steps. After mounting various parts to each of the upper vehicle body and the under vehicle body in their own mounting lines, the upper vehicle body is combined with the under vehicle body. The lower part unit is then mounted to the vehicle body assembly or mounted to the under vehicle body prior to the assembly of the under vehicle body with the upper vehicle body.

A scroll compressor (16) includes an electric motor formed of a stator (25) and a rotor (39), the rotor having a shaft which is supported by upper and lower bearings (23, 28). To ensure precise alignment of the upper bearing (23), lower bearing (28), and stator (25) within the tubular shell (11), the lower bearing (28) is a two-piece assembly comprising an outer ring portion (29) and an inner bearing plate (34). The upper bearing (23), the stator (25), and lower bearing outer ring portion (29) are inserted into the tubular shell (11). An alignment arbor (50), in the form of a spindle carrying the lower bearing outer ring portion (29), is inserted into the stator (25). The upper bearing (23) is installed in the shell (11) onto the arbor. The alignment arbor is expanded against the stator (25), the upper bearing (23) and the lower bearing outer ring portion (29) to ensure precise alignment. Then the upper bearing (23), crankcase and lower bearing outer ring portions (29) are affixed, e.g. welded to the tubular shell (11). The arbor is collapsed and withdrawn. Then the rotor (39) is inserted, and the inner bearing plate (34) of the lower bearing (28) is installed to journal the lower end of the rotor shaft (40). This compressor assembly significantly simplifies the assembly process while achieving precise alignment. This yields improved reliability, startability, and efficiency.

The invention provides a brake caliper mounting method for inserting a disk into a gap between a pair of pads (5,6) carried in an opposing spaced relationship on a caliper (1) to assemble the disk (2) to the caliper (1), which comprises the steps of a first step of holding the caliper by means of holding means (19), a second step of contacting positioning means (25) with a face of the disk to determine a fitting position of the caliper onto the disk, and a third step of fitting the caliper held by the holding means onto the disk along the position of the face of the disk determined by the positioning means. The invention further provides a brake caliper mounting apparatus for inserting a disk (2) into a gap between a pair of pads (5,6) carried in an opposing spaced relationship on a caliper (1) to assemble the disk to the caliper, which comprises means (19) for holding the caliper thereon and moving the caliper toward the disk in order to insert the disk into the gap between the pads, and positioning means (25) contacting with a face of the disk to determine a fitting position of the caliper onto the disk. With the method and apparatus, a disk can be inserted readily and smoothly into a gap between a pair of pads held by a caliper.
