    摘要: A particulate-accommodating fluid flow directing apparatus comprises a failure detection housing 72 containing a flow directing insert 14, the housing 72 serving as a pressure boundary; failure at any location along the insert 14 being detectable by means associated with the housing 72. The insert 14 can be manufactured of erosion resistant materials, including non-ductile materials such as ceramics. The insert 14 is sealed to the housing 72 at an inlet 79 and a discharge 90 forming a pressure chamber 22 between the insert 14 and housing 72. The pressure chamber 22 can be maintained at a pad pressure complementary to the process pressure, the pad pressure being maintained and monitored for indication of insert failure.

The first flow outlet opening (6) of the first flow deflection segment (4) is connected to the second flow inlet opening (9) of the second flow deflection segment (8) in such a way that the second segment longitudinal axis (11) is tilted by a specifiable tilt angle (12) in relation to the first segment longitudinal axis (7). In order to realize a simple and economical device (1), the first and/or the second flow deflection segment (4, 8) has, along the segment longitudinal axis (7, 11) thereof, a first or second inner cross-section change (13, 14).
