Disclosed are methods comprising: (a) first contacting at least a portion of a wastewater stream comprising one or more hydrophilic solutes and one or more crude-oil-associated hydrophobic solutes with an extractant comprising a bi-directional solvent at a first temperature (T1) within 40° C. of the solvent-water critical temperature to form a water-depleted first aqueous solution and a water-enriched first contacting first organic phase; (b) adjusting the temperature of said first organic phase to a second temperature (T2), to form a second organic phase and a second aqueous solution; wherein the absolute value of (T2−T1) is at least 20; (c) separating at least a portion of said one or more crude-oil-associated hydrophobic solutes from said second organic phase; and (d) recycling bi-directional solvent from said second organic phase to said first contacting. An explosion-proof spherical head comprises: a spherical head body (100), a valve body (200), and a pressure relief unit (500). The spherical head body (100) is provided with a water path and a drainage hole (130) penetrating through the interior to exterior of the water path. The water path has a water inlet (110) and a water outlet (120). The valve body (200) is provided with a water inlet channel (210) and a water outlet channel (220) that are independent of each other, and is connected in the spherical head body (100). The water inlet channel (210) is a part of the water path. One port of the water outlet channel (220) is communicated with the water outlet (120), and another port of the water outlet channel (220) is communicated with the drainage hole (130). The pressure relief unit (500) is connected in the valve body (200) and at least comprises a sealing member (520) and an elastic member (530) pressing against the sealing member (520) to enable the sealing member (520) to seal a port of the water outlet channel (220). When a shower head is blocked, pressure relief can be performed through the pressure relief unit (500), so as to reduce the pressure borne by a shower head body, and achieve the objective of protecting the shower head. In addition, the structure of the spherical head is simple and the cost is low.

A method and apparatus for indirect-heat thermal processing of material, such as a dryer or evaporator for treatment of particulate material, is provided. In one embodiment, a dryer for drying particulate material comprises a plurality of heat transfer plates arranged in spaced relationship for the flow of the material to be dried therebetween. Each heat transfer plate is provided with an inlet and an outlet for the flow of the heating fluid through the plates. A purge fluid delivery system provides a flow of purge fluid, such as air, gas or steam between the plates in a direction across the direction of flow of the material to be dried. The purge fluid delivery system provides a flow path for the purge fluid which is isolated from the flow of the heating fluid through the plates. A method for the indirect-heat processing of particulate material is also provided.

The invention relates to a method for neutralizing a sulfuric acid solution containing predominantly Zn ion. In the method of the invention at least one compound selected from chlorine-containing compounds of Na ion, K ion, Mg ion, Ca ion, and NH₄ ion in an amount at least chemically equivalent to SO₄ ion contained in the solution is added to the sulfuric acid solution. Then the sulfuric acid solution is brought into contact with an organic solvent composed of one or more species selected from oxygen-containing organic solvents and alkylamine organic solvents to extract Zn ion from the sulfuric acid solution as a chloride complex to the organic solvent. The sulfuric acid solution after extraction of Zn ion may be further treated by addition of an oxidizing agent or by an electrochemical means to convert Fe²⁺ into Fe³⁺ ion and brought into contact with a second organic solvent (B) composed of one or more species selected from oxygen-containing organic solvents and alkylamine organic solvents. In that manner Fe ion is extracted from the sulfuric acid solution as a second chloride complex to the second organic solvent (B).

A method for recovering titanium from a sulfuric acid solution containing chiefly titanium and iron, comprises adding NaCl or the like to the sulfuric acid solution and contacting the resultant solution with a specified organic solvent to extract iron from the aqueous solution into the organic solvent as chloride complex, contacting the residual aqueous solution with another specified organic solvent to extract titanium from the aqueous solution into that organic solvent as chloride complex, contacting the resultant organic solution with an aqueous solution containing NH₄⁺ or K⁺ together with HF to inversely extract titanium ions therein, and then adding NH₃ gas, NH₄OH or KOH to the aqueous solution to form a precipitate such as (NH₄)₂TiF₆ or titanium hydroxide. Titanium halides and alkoxides may be produced from the precipitate.
