摘要： Transmitting data packets received from a non-constant delay medium includes storing the data packets in a buffer (Fig 2, Ref 48), determining a play-out schedule (Fig 2, Ref 78) for the data packets based on timing information in the data packets, and transmitting the data packets from the buffer in accordance with the play-out schedule. Two of the data packets may contain time stamps and the play-out schedule may be determined based on a difference between the time stamps.

摘要： A data transfer control device and a relay device which are suitable for use in the home network environment. For a case of controlling transfer of information data to a receiving node connected with a first physical network from a transmitting node connected with a second physical network, there is provided a data transfer control device connected with the second physical network which has: an establishing unit for establishing a channel in the second physical network for transmitting the information data; a reserving unit for reserving a communication path for transferring the information data transmitted through that channel to another data transfer control device belonging to the first physical network and/or the receiving node; and a commanding unit for commanding the transmitting node to transmit the information data through that channel, by using a protocol depending on the second physical network.

摘要： A computer system and method for providing digital video and data capitalizes on a bus, or broadcast backplane, created by circuitry contained within the central office. The broadcast backplane enables a plurality of video program data to be available to each end user, and allows a plurality of end users access to a plurality of video programming content without the necessity of delivering the entire program content to each end user. A user requests a particular program and, if authorized, receives at least that program over the communication channel. Simultaneous with the digital video content supplied on the channel is both bi-directional data service (such as for example, Internet data) and POTS (plain old telephone service). In this manner, a communication channel that is presently available to a large percentage of the population may be used to deliver digital video content, bi-directional data and POTS simultaneously. In addition, the digital video and data delivery system employs novel architecture to synchronize the timing of the digital video signal to ensure that the digital video program received by the user is of high quality and complies with the present state of the art MPEG-2 (motion picture experts group-2) video standard.

摘要： A method and an apparatus are used to target interactive virtual objects to subscribers in a television delivery system. Programs are selected and virtual object locations are defined in the selected programs. The virtual objects (1265) available for targeting categorized and categories are correlated to subscriber information (1210) to determine the optimum targeting of the virtual objects (1260). The virtual objects may be targeted (1220) based on individual subscriber information (1210) or on information related to a group of subscribers. When a frame of program includes a virtual object location, a default or an alternate virtual objects is displayed. The virtual object location may change over space or time. The virtual object may be interactive, and may be used to link a subscriber to a remote location, such as an Internet web site. The television terminals record which virtual objects were displayed and report this information back to the headends and the operations center. The reported information is used to generate billing for commercial advertisers and to analyze viewer watching habits.

摘要： There is disclosed a packet transmission apparatus for transmitting in a packet form a transmission unit including a data string arranged so as to divide predetermined data into a plurality of blocks, each block having a fixed length, block information for specifying the block type being added to each block. A DIF data processing circuit (104) generates a transmission header having a new identifier by deleting predetermined redundancy information from the block information belonging to the plurality of blocks based on inputted data string, and then, generates a transmission unit having the generated transmission header. Next, a transmission terminal unit (102) transmits the generated transmission unit by way of a transmission line. In this case, the DIF data processing circuit (104) generates a new identifier by making the information of one block represent the information of the plurality of blocks to generate a transmission header having the generated identifier, or making the information of one block represent the information of an identical block or deleting the redundancy information including at least one of reserved data and invalid data.

Preferably, the step of combining selectie ones of the sub-signals is based on a data rate capacity of the digital subscriber line path (fig. 1, item 12) for subsequent transmission. the bandwidth of the sub-signals selected is supported by the data rate of the digital subscriber line path.
