Abstract:
An apparatus for increasing the functionality of a set top converter for use with a program delivery system comprises a circuit card electronically connected to a set top converter. Information and data are passed between the circuit card and the set top converter. The circuit card includes means for generating menus which identify programs and channels, means for sequencing through menus; and means for selecting a program or channel through the generated menus in response to a user command.
Abstract:
A wireline ultra wideband (UWB) signal transmission device, and a wireline ultra wideband signal transmission method of transmitting an ultra wideband signal over a pipeline carrying a cable television (CATV) broadcasting signal. The pipeline includes a plurality of coaxial cables operatively connected through a plurality of splitters that divide the CATV broadcasting signal at a predetermined rate. A plurality of wireline UWB signal transmission devices respectively connected to the pipeline transmit a wireline single band orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (SB-OFDM) based UWB signal through the pipeline and recover a multimedia signal from the SB-OFDM based signal.

Abstract:
Apparatus and methods to optimize ultra-wideband communication through wire and cable media are provided. One apparatus comprises an ultra- wideband transmitter structured to transmit a training set of ultra- wideband pulses through the wire medium (10). An ultra-wideband receiver is structured to receive the training set of ultra-wideband pulses from the wire medium (20). A determination of which of the pulses within the training set is best suited for communication through the media is then performed (30). This Abstract is provided for the sole purpose of complying with the Abstract requirement rules that allow a reader to quickly ascertain the subject matter of the disclosure contained herein. This Abstract is submitted with the explicit understanding that it will not be used to interpret or to limit the scope or the meaning of the claims.

Abstract:
A filter and/or splitter module for attachment to a wall outlet which terminates a coaxial cable, the module presenting an electrical terminal (9) for electrical connection to a terminal on the wall outlet and a projection (10) extending from the module at a position spaced from the module terminal (9), the projection (10) having an undercut region (12) defining a head (13) for engagement in a slot in the outlet to retain the module with respect to the outlet. Also a wall outlet having an electrical terminal (3) for electrical connection of an end of a coaxial cable, the terminal (3) being accessible from a front of the outlet to enable a terminal of a plug-on filter and/or splitter module to be plugged onto and therefore electrically connected to the outlet, the front of the outlet having a slot (5) shaped to receive a projection on the module such that when the terminal on the module is initially engaged with the outlet terminal the projection enters a release region (6) of the slot, after which rotation of the module around the outlet terminal (3) as centre causes the projection to move into a locking region (7) of the slot (5) where the engagement of the projection with the outlet prevents the module being withdrawn from the outlet, release of the module from the outlet requiring counter-rotation of the module with respect to the outlet.
