摘要:
A porous medical implant and a method of making same is described. The medical implant comprises a porous surface formed by application of pulsed electrical energy ins such a way as to cause a localized heating in the surface of the material comprising portions of the implant. The method comprises a pulsed current sintering technique.

Devices and processes for use in computer aided or computer navigated surgery include frame attachments and indicia which can by easily manufactured at relatively low cost comprising a single piece of injection molded plastic, are disposable, and which are manufactured for single use are disclosed. A fault interface can be interposed between the indicia and an item to be used during surgery such as a body part, tool, implant, trial or other structure or component. After the indicia have been registered into the system and surgery begun, it is sometimes the case that indicia can be inadvertently moved or dislodged in position and / or orientation relative to the body part. Fault interfaces according to various embodiments are designed to fail first, so that the indicia can be repositioned relative to the item without the need to reregister the indicia into the system relative to the item. The fault interfaces preferably include structure that allows the indicium to be repositioned relative to the item so that it does not need to be reregistered into the system.

A surgical device includes a first member, deformable to move a pair of opposing projections toward one another. The projections are received in a pair of opposing openings in a second member, so the first member can pivot relative to the second member about an axis defined by the projections. In another aspect, a surgical instrument includes a first pinless joint pivotably coupling a first jaw to a second jaw, a second pinless joint coupling a distal end of an actuating member to the first jaw, and a third pinless joint coupling a handle to a proximal end of the actuating member. The third pinless joint translates movement of the handle into axial movement of the actuating member, and the second pinless joint translates axial movement of the actuating member into pivotable movement of the first jaw relative to the second jaw about the first pinless joint.

Sheaths (56) for implantable fixation devices and methods of using the sheaths are disclosed. In some embodiments, the sheaths have a flexible body with a perforated wall (56), and an interior of the body is sized and shaped to receive the fixation device (12). In other embodiments, the sheaths include a plurality of flexible or inflexible tubes arranged to form a ring, where the central cavity (456) defined by the ring is sized and shaped to receive the fixation device.

A composition, a medical implant constructed from the composition, and a method of making the composition are described. The composition is a composite material, comprising a porous, reticulated, open cell network having at least part of its surface coated with blue-black or black oxidized zirconium.

A n orthopedic implant with a diffusion-hardened surface on non-load bearing areas of the implant for interaction with non-load bearing surfaces of a polymeric bio-compatible material, such as UHMWPE (ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene). The orthopedic implant is a mobile-bearing knee prosthetic and system where a coating of oxidized zirconium is formed on the post of the tibial tray of the prosthetic for interaction with an opening of a polymeric tibial insert. The diffusion-hardened surface of the orthopedic implant provides a strengthened post and reduction in wear in the opening of the polymeric insert.

The present invention is directed to methods and compositions regarding the preparation of an cell concentrate, such as, for example, an osteogenic cell concentrate, from a physiological solution, such as bone marrow aspirate, blood, or a mixture thereof. In specific embodiments, the invention provides methods and compositions utilizing two physiological solution-processing techniques, particularly in a point of care environment, wherein centrifugation is not employed.
