A delivery system for various functional compounds is disclosed. The delivery system incorporates a composition containing silica and/or alumina. Various functional materials containing particular moieties may be adsorbed onto the silica and/or alumina and used as desired. The functional compounds can be, for instance, pharmaceuticals, xenobiotics, anti-microbial agents, anti-viral agents, UV absorbers, odor control agents, fragrances, and the like. In one particular embodiment, for instance, certain dyes can be adsorbed onto the alumina surfaces. Once the dye is adsorbed onto the alumina surface, the resulting particles can be combined with a liquid vehicle for use in any suitable printing process.

The present invention relates to a family of new porphine compounds for use as colorants and/or colorant stabilizers. The new porphine compounds may be used alone as a magenta dye or may be used in combination with one or more colorants to provide light stability to colorants. The present invention further relates to inks containing the new porphine compounds and a method for making the new compounds. The present invention also relates to improved methods of making Cu-meso-tetra-(2-sulfanatophenyl)-porphine (designated o-CuTPPS4). The improved processes allow the production of o-CuTPPS4 at lower cost and higher yields compared to conventional methods of making o-CuTPPS4. The present invention further relates to the use of o-CuTPPS4 as a colorant stabilizer for a variety of colorants, especially magenta colorants. The o-CuTPPS4, according to the present invention, provides a more stable and more 'blue' colorant stabilizer compared to known colorant stabilizers, such as Cu-meso-tetra-(p-phenylcarboxylic acid)-porphine.

A melt-extrudable thermoplastic composition is proved which includes a thermoplastic polymer and an improved additive system comprising particles of a solid material, in which substantially all of the particles have a longest dimension in the range of from about 0.001 to about 1 micrometer and the surfaces of the particles have a surface free energy which is equal to or less than the surface free energy of the thermoplastic polymer. Alternatively, the particles can be coated with a material which results in coated particle surfaces having a surface free energy which is equal to or less than the surface free energy of the thermoplastic polymer. In one embodiment, a melt-extrudable thermoplastic composition is provided which includes a thermoplastic polyolefin and an improved additive system made up of a first component and a second component, in which (A) the first component is a defined alkyl-substituted polysiloxane having a number-average molecular weight of from about 3,000 to about 36,000 and which is present in an amount of from about 0.01 to about 3 percent by weight, based on the amount of thermoplastic polyolefin; and (B) the second component is a hydrophobic fumed silica, in which the weight ratio of the first component to the second component is in the range of from about 10 to about 70. In a desired embodiment, the particles of second component are in the range of from about 0.001 to about 1 micrometer. The composition yields, upon melt extrusion, nonwoven webs having significantly increased tensile strengths when compared to nonwoven webs prepared from the thermoplastic polyolefin alone.

The present disclosure is directed to an absorbent article including a closed cell foam matrix for delivering oxygen. The absorbent article includes a liquid permeable inner surface for facing the wearer, an outer surface for facing away from the wearer, an absorbent assembly disposed therebetween, and a closed-cell foam matrix material applied to a portion of the absorbent article. The closed cell foam matrix contains a superabsorbent material and oxygen entrapped within the superabsorbent material. To produce the closed cell foam matrix for delivering oxygen, an alkali hydroxide catalyst and oxygen precursor are both added to an aqueous superabsorbent material. The aqueous solution is applied to a nonwoven material. The nonwoven material is then heated to produce oxygen by reacting the alkali hydroxide catalyst and the oxygen precursor thereby entrapping the oxygen in the formed closed cell foam matrix.

An electronic discriminating device incorporating a non-contact electronic sensor array, a controller, and a signaling device that may indicate the presence of urine and/or bowel movement is disclosed. In particular, the electronic discriminating device can discriminate between an insult of urine only and an insult containing bowel movement. The device can then generate different alerts based on the type of insult. The electronic discriminating device may also emit a signal at or near the opening of an absorbent article or transmit the alert wirelessly to a radio, computer device, or smartphone.

A microbe contamination detection system is described. The microbe contamination detection system alerts a user or other individual in the event of microbial contamination of the system. The signal graphic is revealed when an obscuring graphic reacts with the microbial contamination to change color and/or become at least substantially transparent. The microbe contamination detection system may be used as a stand-alone device or may be incorporated as part of various articles or products, for instance, health care or food service preparation protective garments. Methods for using the microbe contamination detection system are also described.
