    摘要: A condenser lens (13) to be used for an optical head capable of recording or reading information on or from optical disks (6, 7) having different substrate thicknesses in an optical disk device such as a CD or the like. A light beam emitted from a laser light source (11) is focused by a condenser lens (13) to form a minute spot. The incident surface of the condenser lens (13) is divided into a plurality of division areas which are sufficiently small with respect to the lens opening. The division areas constitute first and second lens surfaces (14, 15) , that is, parts of lens surfaces of two different lenses. The light beam is focused by the first lens surface (14) to form a minute spot on a first optical disk (6) and by the second lens surface (15) to from a minute spot on a second optical disk (7). The two lenses can be optimized independently and be designed readily. One condenser lens (13) having the first and second lens surfaces (14, 15) can form two kinds of light beam spots and adaptable to two optical disks (6, 7) having different substrate thicknesses.

    摘要: In the recording on a rewritable optical disc (1), the searching time for the no data area is reduced. In this method, data is recorded in ECC blocks (20), each of which is a minimum unit region in the recording operation by the drive unit (33). Recording blocks (21) are assigned to the user data region (4) of the optical disc so that each recording block includes at least two ECC blocks. A bit map is generated. Every 1 bit data of the bit map represents the recording state of a recording block (21). By referencing the bit map, the area in which data is not recorded can be searched in a short time.

    摘要: It is an object of the invention to provide a focussed spot position-discriminating system and an optical disk with a guiding groove suited therefor. A laser light emitted from a laser light source is focussed on the optical disk with the guiding groove by an objective lens. The servo control circuit of a servo control system for controlling the position of the objective lens discriminates whether the focussed spot is on a land track or a groove track based on the offset of the focussing error signal. The depth of the guiding groove is selected to be λ/8 to λ/6 in order to obtain nearly the maximum offset of the focussing error signal.
