摘要:
A condenser lens (13) to be used for an optical head capable of recording or reading information on or from optical disks (6, 7) having different substrate thicknesses in an optical disk device such as a CD or the like. A light beam emitted from a laser light source (11) is focused by a condenser lens (13) to form a minute spot. The incident surface of the condenser lens (13) is divided into a plurality of division areas which are sufficiently small with respect to the lens opening. The division areas constitute first and second lens surfaces (14, 15) , that is, parts of lens surfaces of two different lenses. The light beam is focused by the first lens surface (14) to form a minute spot on a first optical disk (6) and by the second lens surface (15) to from a minute spot on a second optical disk (7). The two lenses can be optimized independently and be designed readily. One condenser lens (13) having the first and second lens surfaces (14, 15) can form two kinds of light beam spots and adaptable to two optical disks (6, 7) having different substrate thicknesses.

A magneto-optical head has first and second diffraction gratings, for diffracting a reflection light reflected at a magneto-optical disk. Further, the system is provided with a photodetector for detecting an error signal and an information signal in accordance with the diffracted lights supplied from the diffraction gratings, respectively.

In the recording on a rewritable optical disc (1), the searching time for the no data area is reduced. In this method, data is recorded in ECC blocks (20), each of which is a minimum unit region in the recording operation by the drive unit (33). Recording blocks (21) are assigned to the user data region (4) of the optical disc so that each recording block includes at least two ECC blocks. A bit map is generated. Every 1 bit data of the bit map represents the recording state of a recording block (21). By referencing the bit map, the area in which data is not recorded can be searched in a short time.

In an optical information recording medium to which a recording operation or reproducing operation of information is carried out by irradiating a laser beam, there are provided with two recording layers provided through a space layer. An absolute value of a change Δd of a film thickness of the space layer for every unit length in a circumferential direction is equal to or less than a predetermined value which is determined based on a wavelength of the laser beam, a refractive index of the space layer in the wavelength λ and one of a line velocity of the laser beam and the shortest pit length in a pit sequence recorded in each of the recording layers.

The present invention provides an optical disc apparatus capable of detecting recorded control information stably and an optical disc medium used for the optical disc apparatus. The optical disc medium is a recordable optical disc medium and configures such that a spiral shaped recording track is formed, an information addition area (21,22) separating a recording track by a predetermined length L is provided for each control information addition unit (25), having the length of less than 25 percent of the L. Also, the information addition area has a first arrangement (21) and a second arrangement (22) where the positions differ by substantially one-half of the L within the control information addition unit and the first arrangement and the second arrangement are selected such that the information addition area is adjacent not overlapping but being a predetermined distance apart in the recording track direction between recording tracks adjoining in the radial direction.

In an optical disk recording method of recording data onto a recordable optical disk which includes a data zone where data is recorded and a management data zone where management data indicating the recorded part of the data zone is recorded, an extended management data zone in which the management data is to be recorded is set in the data zone in response to an extension instruction.

It is an object of the invention to provide a focussed spot position-discriminating system and an optical disk with a guiding groove suited therefor. A laser light emitted from a laser light source is focussed on the optical disk with the guiding groove by an objective lens. The servo control circuit of a servo control system for controlling the position of the objective lens discriminates whether the focussed spot is on a land track or a groove track based on the offset of the focussing error signal. The depth of the guiding groove is selected to be λ/8 to λ/6 in order to obtain nearly the maximum offset of the focussing error signal.
