Abstract:
The invention relates to a process for preparing pentabromobenzyl acrylate through the reaction of pentahalobenzyl halide with a salt of acrylic acid in water-immiscible solvent, wherein said salt is in aqueous form and the reaction is carried out in the presence of a phase transfer catalyst. A process for polymerizing the pentabromobenzyl acrylate in halogenated aromatic solvent and the poly (pentabromobenzyl acrylate) obtained are also disclosed.
Abstract:
A polyfluoroalkyl alcohol, or a (meth)acrylic acid derivative thereof, represented by the following general formula : €ƒ€ƒ€ƒ€ƒ€ƒ€ƒ€ƒ€ƒC n F 2n+1 (CH 2 CF 2 ) a (CF 2 CF 2 ) b (CH 2 CH 2 ) c OR (R : H or (meth)acrylic acid group ; n : 1-6 ; a : 1-4 ; b : 1-3 ; and c : 1-3). Polyfluoroalkyl alcohol (R : hydrogen atom) can be produced by reaction of fluoroalkyl iodide represented by the following general formula : €ƒ€ƒ€ƒ€ƒ€ƒ€ƒ€ƒ€ƒC n F 2n+1 (CH 2 CF 2 ) a (CF 2 CF 2 ) b (CH 2 CH 2 ) c I with N-methyl formamide, followed by hydrolysis in the presence of an acid catalyst, whereas polyfluoroalkyl alcohol (meth)acrylic acid derivative (R : (meth)acrylic acid group) can be produced by reaction of the polyfluoroalkyl alcohol with (meth)acrylic acid.

Abstract:
Fluoroalcohol compounds of formula (4) are prepared by reacting a fluorine compound of formula (1) with reducing agents or organometallic reagents of formulas (2) and (3) wherein R 1 is H or a monovalent C 1 -C 20 hydrocarbon group in which any -CH 2 - moiety may be replaced by -O- or -C(=O)-, R 2 is H or a monovalent C 1 -C 6 hydrocarbon group, R 3 and R 4 are H or a monovalent C 1 -C 8 hydrocarbon group, and M 1 is Li, Na, K, Mg, Zn, Al, B, or Si. From the fluoroalcohol compounds, fluorinated monomers can be produced in a simple and economic way, which are useful in producing polymers for the formulation of radiation-sensitive resist compositions.

Claimed are fluorous telomeric co mpounds of the formula: RF - A - [CH2]cCR2R3 - Z where RF is a perfluoroalkyl radical o f 1 to 20 carbon atoms, A is a group of the formulae (I) or (II). R1 is CF3 OR4, Cl, Br or I, R2 and R3 are H, alkyl or aryl R4 is perfluoromethyl, perfluoropropyl or perfluoropropyloxypropyl X and Y are H, Cl or F Z is -OH, -OCOCH=CH2 or -OCOCCH3=CH2 a is fro m 0 to 10, b is fro m 1 to 30 and c is fro m 1 to 30. These co mpounds are copolymerized wit h further mo no mers. The copolymers thus obtained are useful for water-, oil- and soil-repellent finishing of fibrous substrates.

Abstract:
A fluoroalkene is reacted with hydrogen iodide gas in the presence of a catalyst to produce a fluoroalkyl iodide represented by the general formula (II): Rf-CH2CH2I (II) wherein Rf represents C1-20 perfluoroalkyl or polyfluoroalkyl. The fluoroalkyl iodide is reacted with a carboxylic acid salt to produce a fluorinated ester.
