A system and method are provided for packing compressed image data into a format suitable for encoding. The system includes a plurality of sub-band state registers, which store compressed image data from a corresponding sub-band. A bit packer receives a stream of bits of compressed image data, and concatenates the input bits with bits stored in one of the sub-band state registers. If a length of the concatenated bits is less than a width of an output data bus, the bit packer stores the concatenated bits in the sub-band state register. If the length of the concatenated bits is greater than or equal to the width of the output data bus, the bit packer outputs the concatenated bits via the output data bus.

The controller is configured and operable for generating a colored image by sequentially operating the tunable spectral filter for sequentially filtering light passing towards the image sensor with three or more different spectral filtering curves during three or more corresponding integration time durations. The tunable spectral filter is configured, as an etalon and includes a pair of reflective surfaces. At least one of the reflective surfaces includes a layer of high refractive index of at least n=2.3 or even higher than 3, or a layer of low refractive index, smaller than n=1. The configuration of the etalon provide wide transmission peaks of the spectral curves with full-width-half maximum (FWHM) in the range of about 50 to 80 nm, free spectral range (FSR) of at least 300 nm, and thickness of the etalon in the order to 1 mm or even less.

Techniques are disclosed for providing compressed three-dimensional (3D) graphics rendering exploiting psychovisual properties of the human eye. In some embodiments, the techniques can be used to render one red-green-blue (RGB) channel per pixel location. In some example such cases, green pixels are rendered at one-half resolution, whereas red and blue pixels are rendered at one-quarter resolution. In some other embodiments, multiple RGB channels can be rendered at a given pixel location. In some example such cases, green pixels are rendered at full (e.g., actual) resolution, whereas red and blue pixels are rendered at one-quarter resolution. Missing RGB channel components can be interpolated using statistical and/or frequency domain properties of color spectra, in accordance with some embodiments. The techniques can be used, for example, to improve the power efficiency and/or rendered graphics quality of a graphics processing unit (GPU) or other rendering engine, in accordance with some embodiments.

There are provided an apparatus and a method which generate an RGB image having less color noise and fewer false colors by inputting an RGBW image. The apparatus has an image sensor having an RGBW array, and an image processing unit which performs image processing by inputting a sensor image formed of an RGBW pixel signal output from the image sensor. The image sensor has a periodic array of a unit composition formed of each RGBW pixel, and has an array in which composition ratios of each RGB pixel within the unit composition are adapted to be the same as each other. The image processing unit converts a pixel array of the sensor image formed of the RGBW pixel signal, and performs at least either array conversion processing for generating an RGB array image or signal processing for generating each RGB image signal in which all RGB pixel values are set for each pixel position of the sensor image.
