A method and apparatus for deleting a file from a bubble cassette memory. A file, constituting one input unit of data to be written into the cassette memory, is divided into a plurality of blocks each comprising a predetermined number of bytes and is thereafter stored in the cassette memory. In similar fashion a plurality of such files are stored in the cassette memory in numerical order. When a command for deletion of the n-th file F n is generated, files which were originally stored in the cassette memory following the n-th file Fn are stored successively and in block-by-block fashion in the cassette memory starting from the position at which the n-th file F n was originally stored.

A major/minor loop bubble memory system includes a passive replicator (34) in the major loop read channel (33) which is connected by a first path (42) to a mode switch- annihilator (44) and a merge point in the major loop write channel (30) and by a second path (36) to an off-chip decision-making means (38) and the merge point in the write channel. The decision-making means (38) is positioned the same or fewer propagation steps than the mode switch-annihilator (44) is from the replicator (34). The decision-making means (38) is activated to cause either the replicated data to pass through the mode switch-annihilator (44) into the write channel or the replicated data to be annihilated in the mode switch-annihilator and the data from a generator (40) to pass into the write channel.

In order to write Bloch lines into the magnetic wall of the stripe magnetic domain, current (I g ) is caused to flow through a single conductor (14) which is so disposed as to cross the mgnetic wall of the stripe magnetic domain. On this occasion, the current through the single conductor (14) is so directed as to generate an in-plane field opposite in sense to magnetization within the magnetic wall of the stripe magnetic domain (1).
