摘要： Zur visuellen Markierung von Flugköpern, insbesonder von Raketen wird eine Rauch- und/oder Dampfeinheit (6) eingesetzt, welche an einen an sich bekanntes Triebwerk (11) angeschlossen ist. Beim Abschuss der Rakete (R) entstehen in der Düsenbohrung (7') heisse Gase, die eine hitzeempfindliche Folie (8) verbrennen und dadurch die Einheit (6) aktivieren.
Der resultierende Rauch erlaubt dem am Abschuss beteiligten Personal den Weg der Rakete (R) zu verfolgen und damit die Abschussoperationen einzuüben. In gleicher Weise kann der Erfindungsgegenstand auch Piloten dienen, um Ausweichmanöver zu üben.

摘要： An improved tracer ammunition round and method of manufacturing the tracer ammunition. Each round is fabricated by first providing an elongated hole (38) in a cord (36) of soft metal, filling the hole with a special pyrotechnic composition (40) and then reducing the diameter of the cord to a desired size. The cord is then cropped into round size lengths (42) and each length is treated to provide a shaped slug (44') with a pyrotechnic column throughout its length. The shaped slugs are then inserted into the interior cavities of shaped metallic jackets (52) and are secured therein by crimping (32). The pyrotechnic column (46) is formed of zirconium powder, potassium perchlorate and a suitable binder. The ratio of the length of the column to its diameter is between five and two hundred, the diameter of the pyrotechnic column is between .030 inches and .055 inches and the quantity of pyrotechnic composition in the pyrotechnic column is between 12 grains and 24 grains per linear foot of column.

A rear surface of the projectile is coated with a fluorescent dye that re-emits radiation when excited by laser radiation. The system includes a source of laser radiation (strobe) pulses that form a cone of light. intersecting the ballistic path of the projectile. The strobe pulses are emitted at predetermined times (T1, T2, Τ3,...Τn) following firing of the projectile (at time T0). An optical detector receives the radiation re-emitted by a the fluorescent dye at the rear of the projectile at times (T1z, T2z, T3z,...Τnz) producing measurable location signals allowing the system to measure the vertical and lateral positions of the projectile at said times, where "z" is a re-emission delay and T1z, T2z, T3z,...Τnz, are the respective times T1, T2, Τ3,...Τn each delayed by amount z.
