    摘要: In a motor vehicle transmission a first rotary member (43) is connected to a second rotary member (47) by a variable resistance coupling (40). The variable resistance coupling (40) comprises a first viscous coupling (45) connected in series with a second viscous coupling (48) by a common outer housing (49). A selector clutch (50) can connect the outer housing (49) to the second rotary member (47) to render the second viscous coupling (48) ineffective and give a high resistance mode for the variable resistance coupling compared to the low resistance mode when both viscous couplings are operational. The variable resistance coupling (40) is used to control the centre differential (17) in a four wheel drive vehicle. In an alternative arrangement (fig.3, not shown) the variable resistance coupling is in the drive from an intermediate reduction drive driven by a conventional front wheel drive engine and transaxle and connects the transaxle to the rear wheels.

    摘要: A torque transmission device of a four-wheel drive vehicle having a pair of drive shafts (100,200) includes a hydraulic pump (3) for transmitting torque to both drive shafts through a variable oil pressure generated therein according to the difference in rotational speed between both drive shafts, and a multiple disc clutch (4) for transmitting torque to both drive shafts by a frictional coupling power. The hydraulic pump has a casing (30) and a rotor (31) housed therein. The casing is rotated by one of the drive shafts (100). The rotor is rotated by the other drive shaft (200) through a transmitting member (7), a cam mechanism (5) and a rotary sleeve (2). The transmitting member has a clutch operating portion for operating the clutch. When the transmitted torque exceeds a predetermined level, the cam mechanism (5) is adapted to move the transmitting member (7) to operate the multiple disc clutch (4) with no intermediary of the casing (30).

    摘要: A differential drive arrangement distributes driving torque solely by way of viscous fluid coupling means. in one arrangement, in a motor vehicle drive transmission, a crown wheel is mounted co-axially on the housing of a coupling means from which nearside and offside half-shafts extend driven by separate sets of 'inner' annular plates interleaved with those of an 'outer' set of annular plates driven by the housing. In another arrangement, two separate viscous fluid couplings are used, the housings being driven by a common crown wheel. in each case, there is no conventional differential gear. The differential drive arrangement may be for transient four-wheel-drive where one pair of road wheels is positively driven by a conventional differential gear; or the differential drive arrangement may be for 'continuous' duty.
