Abstract:
A grey scale facility for co-ordinate addressed bistable ferroelectric liquid crystal cell is provided by a cycle of refreshings within the persistence of vision time these refreshings being arranged so that the brightest pixels are turned on soonest and remain on longest while progressively less bright pixels are turned on at progressively later stages in the cycle and hence remain on for progressively shorter periods. The strength of illumination is modulated in synchronism with the cyclic addressing of the cell.
Abstract:
In a semi-custom integrated circuit, e.g. a bipolar analogue array, underpass areas are so configured as to permit operation as capacitors by suitable configuration of a user determined interconnection pattern. Typically each underpass comprises a highly doped region 15 disposed over a buried layer 14. A thin oxide layer is applied to the surface of the underpass. Suitable configuration of polysilicon and metal masks provides a cross-over or a capacitor.
Abstract:
An apparatus for pulsed plasma treatment of a substrate surface includes means for removing spent gas from a region adjacent the substrate for each pulse. The apparatus may also include means for sweeping an intense plasma region across a substrate surface. Rapid gas exchange is provided by pressure pulsing the gas admission. This facility also provides means for rapidly alternating different gases.
Abstract:
A component forming a node of an optical fibre network is constituted by a doping superlattice device (11) interposed between the coupled ends of two optical fibres (16,17), this device (11) functioning as a transmissive detector and modulator.
