Abstract:
A cable burying device (3) comprises several heavy hollow tapered elements (7, 8) coupled to each other (7A, 7B, 8A, 8B) to provide limited flexibility, which is towed along the seabed and which digs a trench, the cable (1) passing through the length of the device to become buried in the trench. A guide tube (2) to guide the cable (1) from the ship to the burying device (3) has a flexible lattice construction (Figs. 6, 7, 8) which can be folded flat for ease of storage on the ship.

In a step for laminating a stack of layers (21, 22) together in the manufacture of a low-temperature co-fired hybrid circuit having a recess, an insert (23) is disposed in the recess and a resilient pressure pad (24) disposed over the insert and stack. This serves to improve lamination and prevents bowing of the sides and base of the recess. The insert may be of metal and separate from the pressure pad or of resilient material and integral with the pressure pad (3 - Figure 2; 33 - Figure 12).

Novel derivatives of cyclic and acyclic terpenoid alcohols, having general formula (I) X-(CO)n-O-T1, where n = O or 1, T1 is a terpenoid group and X is a combination of cyclic groups, eg phenyl, cyclohexyl and pyrimidyl. X preferably contains up to three cyclic groups. Preferred derivatives are esters of cyclic terpenoid alcohols, eg menthol, borneol and isopineocampheol, eg formula (II) (-)-menthol. Ferroelectric smectic liquid crystal mixtures and devices containing these derivatives as chiral dopants in a tilted smectic host are also described. The properties of various other derivatives of terpenoid alcohols of formula (I) are also described, eg those of neomenthol, isolongifolol, fenchol, carveol, myrthenol, nopol, citronellol, perilla alcohol and dihydrocitronellol.

Un mode de communication adapté pour un système téléphonique sans fil met en oeuvre la communication radio en duplex à division du temps entre un combiné (11) et un poste de base (3), utilisant des salves alternées de transmission sur un seul canal radio. Une fois qu'une liaison radio a été établie, les transmissions initiales acheminent un canal logique de synchronisation (S) et un canal logique de signalisation (D) multiplexés ensemble, mais la liaison peut passer à des salves acheminant un canal logique de communication (B) pour les données vocales ainsi que le canal logique de signalisation (D). La synchronisation des salves se fait par la détection asynchrone de mots se trouvant dans un canal de synchronisation (S). Ces mots comportent des configurations binaires réduisants la probabilité de leur détection asynchrone incorrecte. Si une des parties cesse de recevoir les signaux du combiné provenant de l'autre partie, elle transmet un signal spécial informant l'autre partie. Cela permet aux deux parties de détecter la défaillance d'une liaison presqu'en même temps, de sorte que leurs mesures pour rétablir la liaison sont synchronisées.

Low resistivity doped polysilicon conductive layers are formed on an integrated circuit by low temperature recrystallisation of doped amorphous silicon followed by transient pulse annealing to a peak temperature of 1000 to 1100 DEG C to activate the dopant.
