A flat panel display device comprises a matrix (10) of X and Y drive lines and a plurality of selecting field effect transistors (12). Each FET (12) is selectively operable by applying a potential across an individual pair of X and Y drive lines for controlling activation of a corresponding optical transducer (14). A high value resistor (15) is interposed in series between the gate electrode (G) of each selecting FET (12) and associated drive line to minimize the effect a short circuit caused by a defective gate electrode establishing an electrical connection between X and Y drive lines. The resistance is preferably provided by a segment of undoped polysilicon in a polysilicon circuit line connecting each gate electrode with the associated X drive line.

A rotating magnetic disk storage assembly (10) using sector servo information on the disks (9), is initialized with servo information by first using the dedicated product transducer heads (14) and accessing mechanism (13), to write on the innermost and outermost data tracks. The data tracks written by each transducer head are read using the heads (16) of a precision servowriter mechanism positioned at the expected data track positions. Errors between expected and actual positions are determined and in turn each servo writer head is positioned to duplicate the path of the product head written innermost and outermost tracks. By offsetting the precision servowriter head by a half track pitch and writing the servo information to form equally spaced tracks, the disk is initialized with full track pitch servo information which is positioned and aligned with the position and alignment of the dedicated product head assembly. This is repeated for each disk and servo writer head.

A thin film (8) of optically transparent metal is evaporated on the layer (4) to form a photo-responsive Schottky barrier (9). A layer (12) of anti-reflective material, such as Ti02, is applied to the film (8). Light incident on the upper surface (13) has higher energy photons absorbed in the higher bandgap amorphous material layer (4) and lower energy photons pass through the transparent conductor layer (2) to a point of absorption in the lower energy gap crystalline material layer (1).

A system for generating complete sets of copies after a jam occurs with respect to copy sheets is effected by maintaining count of sheets reaching an exit pocket (43) and retained in a duplex tray (33) for determining therefrom images lost due to the jam and responsive thereto generating replacement copies. For effecting job recovery due to jams occurring during imaging of duplex copies, replacement sheets are generated immediately after each jam to replace sheets lost due to the jam by determining the number of pages to be printed, dividing this number by two, and subtracting therefrom the count of sheets in the duplex tray and in the exit pocket, with this determination being then used to control generation of first side images on sheets needed for replacement purposes with said sheets being then conveyed to the duplex tray so that the resulting duplex copy generation is complete when reaching the exit pocket.

Axerographiccopier has an exchangeable, multifunction paper cassette, the cassette functioning as a paper supply, exit tray and single-sheet bypass entry station. The cassette is held at a small angle to the vertical and includes a lower end wall (73), side walls (84, 85) and upper wall (74) spaced from the end wall to leave a gap which exposes the top sheet of a supply stack to paper feed roller means. Paper is fed, one sheet at a time, to a paper path which includes a transfer station and a hot roll fusing station. This paper path traverses a loop, such that the finished copy comes to rest on the wall (74), of the cassette. Atthe lower end ofthe wall (74) includes a movable paper gate (49) which, when closed, allows multiple copies to be stacked before removal by the operator. If the operator wishes to copy in the bypass mode, a single sheet is inserted onto the wall (74), and the gate (49) is opened, allowing the lower edge of the bypass sheet to be interposed on top of the top sheet of the paper supply stack against paper registering stops (89, 90). This bypass sheet is used as the next sheet in a copy process. Removal of the cassette, or movement of the paper gate to its open position, controls an interimage erase station of the copier to erase for the longest paper which can be used in the copier.
