A rubber composition suitable for tire treads having well-balanced excellent steering stability in cornering, wet skid characteristic, ice skid characteristic and rolling characteristic, and an excellent processability, which comprises a rubber component containing a block copolymer consisting essentially of a block A and a block B, obtained by conducting polymerization of an aromatic vinyl compound and a conjugated diene compound in a hydrocarbon solvent in the presence of an organolithium initiator and modifying with a coupling agent, and satisfying the following conditions (A) to (E); (A) the block A having a content of an aromatic vinyl compound of 5 to 20 % by weight and a content of 1,2-bonds in the conjugated diene component of 25 to 55 % by weight, (B) the block B having a content of an aromatic vinyl compound of 35 to 60 % by weight and a content of 1,2-bonds in the conjugated diene component of 20 to 70 % by weight, (C) the content of the block A in the block copolymer being from 20 to 80 % by weight, (D) the average content of the aromatic vinyl compound in the block copolymer being from 20 to 40 % by weight and the average content of 1,2-bonds in the conjugated diene component of the block copolymer being from 20 to 60 % by weight, and (E) at least 40 % by weight of the polymer chains of the block copolymer being a branched polymer formed by modification with a trifunctional or tetrafunctional coupling agent.

A modified polymer rubber is obtained by (1) graft-polymerizing at least one grafting monomer to a shredded rubbery polymer (A) in an aqueous suspension at a temperature of 30° - 130°C to obtain a graft polymer, and (2) kneading the graft polymer with at least one polymerizable monomer in the presence of a free radical initiator at a temperature of 180°-280°C. This process does not cause gel formation and is advantageous in manufacturing cost. The modified polymer rubber thus obtained is excellent in processability and storage stability, and highly useful as a compatibilizer for various resins.

A vulcanized, ethylene/α-olefin copolymer rubber composition obtained by vulcanizing an unvulcanized rubber composition comprising 100 parts by weight of a rubber composition consisting of 0-99% by weight of an ethylene/α-olefin copolymer rubber and 100-1% by weight of an ethylene/α-olefin copolymer rubber containing an α,β-unsaturated carboxylic acid and/or a derivative thereof; and 5-100 parts by weight of a polyamide resin, wherein an ethylene/α-olefin copolymer rubber is at least one selected from ethylene/α-olefin copolymers and ethylene/α-olefin/non-conjugated diene copolymers. The vulcanized, ethylene/α-olefin copolymer rubber composition of the present invention has a high hardness and is excellent in weather resistance and thermal resistance as compared with natural rubbers and general-purpose rubbers.

An adhesive composition comprising a modified, ethylene/ a-olefin copolymer rubber or a modified, ethylene/a-olefin/non-conjugated diene copolymer rubber containing 0.1 - 100/o by weight of at least one member selected from the group consisting of an acid anhydride and a dicarboxylic acid, and, if necessary, as an amine compound,
(i) 0.2 - 2 moles of a dialkylamine per mole of the acid anhydride in said modified copolymer rubber when said modified copolymer rubber contains no dicarboxylic acid; (ii) 0.2 - 2 moles of a polyamine compound per mole of the total amount of the acid anhydride and the dicarboxylic acid in said modified copolymer rubber; or (iii) 0.2 - 2 moles of a dialkylamine per mole of the acid anhydride in said modified copolymer rubber and 0.2 - 2 moles of a polyamine compound per mole of the acid anhydride in said modified copolymer rubber when said modified copolymer rubber contains no dicarboxylic acid. The above adhesive composition exhibits good adhesion for rubber compositions, particularly low saturated, non-polar rubber compositions and fibers, and is excellent in storage stability.

(1) The amount of bound unsaturated carboxylic acid, a derivative thereof or unsaturated epoxy compound is high. (2) The change of the melt flow rate during the modification is small. (3) The physical properties are of high grade. (4) The transparency is improved due to the graft of unsaturated aromatic compound.
The modified polyolefin resin of the present invention can be used for adhesives, covering materials, binders, laminate bonding agent and polymer alloy constituents.
