(A) 2 to 98% of an ethylene copolymer comprising from 50 to 90% of ethylene, up to 49% by weight of an alkyl ester of a C3 to 8 α,ß-unsaturated carboxylic acid and from 0.5 to 10% of maleic anhydride; (B) 2 to 98% of a crystalline polyethylene resin comprising (i) an ethylene homopolymer or (ii) a copolymer of ethylene and an α-olefin having 3 or more carbon atoms, the ethylene content being 90% by weight or more; and (C) 2 to 50%, of a non-crystalline or low crystalline olefin copolymer rubber comprising a copolymer of ethylene and an α-olefin having 3 or more C atoms, e.g. propylene, and optionally up to 3% of a non-conjugated diene ; the sum of the monomers in (A) and of components (A), (B) and (C) being each 100%.
(B) and (C) are respectively of high and low rigidity of flexural rigidity modulus respectively 1500 kg/cm² or more and below 1500 kg/cm². The composition has good adhesion to polar materials, e.g. to copolymers of ethylene and PVA.

According to the present invention, there is provided a modified polyolefin resin having the following merits: (1) The amount of bound unsaturated carboxylic acid, a derivative thereof or unsaturated epoxy compound is high. (2) The change of the melt flow rate during the modification is small. (3) The physical properties are of high grade. (4) The transparency is improved due to the graft of unsaturated aromatic compound. The modified polyolefin resin of the present invention can be used for adhesives, covering materials, binders, laminate bonding agent and polymer alloy constituents.

An adhesive resin composition is described, comprising: (A) a thermoplastic copolyester resin prepared from (1) a dicarboxylic acid component comprising from 40 to 100 mol % of terephthalic acid and from 0 to 60 mol % of other aromatic dicarboxylic acid and (2) a low molecular weight glycol component comprising from 40 to 100 mol % of 1,4-butanediol and from 0 to 60 mol % of diethylene glycol or 1,6-hexanediol and further from 0 to 10 mol %, based on the total carboxylic acid, of polytetramethylene glycol having a molecular weight of from 600 to 6,000, which has a melting point of from 90 DEG to 160 DEG C. and a reduced viscosity of at least 0.5; and (B) an ethylene copolymer having at least one functional group selected from an epoxy group, a carboxylic acid group, and a dicarboxylic anhydride gruop; and if desired, (C) a thermoplastic resin other than the resin (A), and if further desired, (D) a polyfunctional epoxy compound. This composition exhibits excellent adhesion to synthetic resins such as polyvinyl chloride, polyesters, and polyolefins and also to metals such as aluminum and has excellent adhesive durability against moisture.
