A process for obtaining a film that comprises the incorporation of natural antimicrobial agents in a polymeric structure for the development of packages designed to increase the shelf life of chilled or refrigerated meat, preferably fresh chilled salmon; said process comprises the following steps: a) mixing a first extrusion of the antimicrobial active agent with low density polyethylene powder to obtain a pellet; b) a second extrusion to obtain a film incorporating the pellet obtained in step (a) in a proportion of 10% polyethylene pellets; c) conduct a three-layer coextrusion to develop the film into which the antimicrobial agent is incorporated, wherein the antimicrobial active agent is incorporated into the film layer which is in direct contact with salmon, where the binder, the middle and the outer structure of the film, provide the requirements for the film structure, without the incorporation of the active agent.

The present invention relates to the obtainment, production and use of metabolites with anti-botrytis cinerea properties from natural extracts of Chilean plants. In particular, it comprises an in vitro cultivated quillay extract ( Quillaza saponaria Mol.), which allows improving the antifungal activity as the result of the enrichment with some secondary metabolites not found in the in vivo plants. The invention also comprises the in vivo cultivation method, the extraction method, a biocide formulation, and the applications thereof.

The present invention relates to a degradable film for packaging fruit and vegetables, which comprises a polyolefin-based polymer matrix that incorporates an antimicrobial (biocidal or fungicidal) active ingredient of an essential oil, selected from the group consisting of: carvacrol, cinnamaldehyde, cineol, sabinene, thujaplicin, or a mixture of same, or incorporates the essential oil itself, selected from the group consisting of: cinnamon oil, oregano oil, eucalyptus oil, nutmeg oil, hinoki oil, or a mixture of same. The polymer matrix further comprises degrading agents. The invention also relates to a method for microencapsulating the antifungal or antibacterial active ingredients of the essential oil or the essential oil itself, and to a method for preparing the film.

A microbiological method for determining traces of antibiotics in low volume biological samples, which comprises determining the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of an antibiotic selected from a group consisting of minocycline, ciprofloxacin, kanamycin, tetracycline and oxacillin against Staphylococcus aureus. The bacteria are grown overnight in Mueller-Hinton broth (MHB), said cultures subsequently being diluted to 0.5 McFarland standard (1.5 x 108 cells/mL). Said antibiotics are then added to 96-well plates to a final volume of 200 µL and incubated at 37°C for 18 hours. Absorbency is determined and the results are expressed as the percentage of inhibition relative to the control containing the biological sample, selected in turn from urine, blood, synovial fluid, eye aqueous humour or cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), and the bacterial culture. The curve representing the percentage of bacterial growth inhibition versus concentration of antibiotic is obtained, and fitted by "Four Parameter Logistic Curve (4PL)" analysis, yielding the antibiotic concentration values in the biological sample. The method allows to determine amounts of antibiotic in the biological sample even at ng/mL level.

A thin packaging film 1 comprises a reference area 2 that has a closed contour and is surrounded by a tear-off area on the entire reference area periphery. An incipient tear 3 is precut into said film so as to block off said contour while leading into the latter, thus forming a gripping portion 4 that is capable of being pulled away from the plane of said thin film, the reference area being designed such as to trap one end of said incipient tear within said contour while the other end spreads, by tearing in a spiraling manner, from the tear-off area over at least 180º around said reference area when the gripping portion begins to undergo pulling. Said closed contour is preferably circular. The area having a closed contour may be, in particular, an opening or a film portion surrounded by a reinforcement material loop.
