The invention relates to a method of making methanol. The method comprises the steps of providing a wall (1) formed by a rotor blade (5) of a wind power plant (6), the wall (1) having a surface (2) on which a carbonic anhydrase (3) is immobilized, exposing the surface (29) of the wall (1) to a stream of gas and using the carbonic anhydrase (3) to remove carbon dioxide from the stream of gas. The carbon dioxide so obtained is then used to produce methanol in a fuel cell, in a chemical reaction where electrical energy is used to transform water and carbon dioxide to methanol. The invention also relates to an arrangement for making methanol.

Certain embodiments and aspects of the present invention relate to a photobioreactor including covered photobioreactor units through which a liquid medium stream and a gas stream flow. The liquid medium comprises at least one species of phototrophic organism therein. Certain methods of using the photobioreactor system as part of fuel generation system and/or a gas-treatment process or system at least partially remove certain undesirable pollutants from a gas stream. In certain embodiments, a portion of the liquid medium is diverted from a photobioreactor unit and reintroduced upstream of the diversion position. In certain embodiments, the disclosed photobioreactor system, methods of using such systems, and/or gas treatment apparatus and methods provided herein can be used as part of an integrated combustion method and system, wherein photosynthetic organisms used within the photobioreactor are harvested from the photobioreactor, processed, and used as a fuel source for a combustion system such as an electric power plant.

At least one nozzle is in fluid communication with a source of gas, such as exhaust gas from a fossil-fuel burning power plant containing carbon dioxide. The nozzle is disposed in the mixture beneath the second ends of the optical fibers for injecting the gas into the mixture.

Procedure for the removal of hydrogen sulphide (H 2 S) from a contaminating gas ( GC ) stream, whereby a liquid (L) that contains an oxidized state of S, such as sulphur salts or elemental sulphur, is produced. The H 2 S is biologically oxidized by means of microorganisms disposed in biofilters (3, 3', 103, 103'), in a biological reactor (1, 101), through oxidation reaction phases, with the liquid and gas in uniflow (2) and in counterflow (102) within the biofilters. Part of the liquid is recirculated from a lower decantation area of the reactor (1, 101) towards the upper part of the biofilter, where the liquid is sprayed downwards over the biological support, and from which it is also refed a mineral nutrient medium for the microorganisms. The clean gas ( GL ) is then extracted through the lower part of the reactor (1, 101) for its valuation, for example, in terms of energetics.
