摘要： An elasticised web (10) has a gatherable substrate (12) and a multi-strand elastic yarn (14) affixed to the gatherable substrate at a number of fixation locations (16). So that the yarn can be affixed to the substrate without the use of an adhesive, the yarn is subjected to forces to create partial delamination of the yarn at the fixation locations and a portion of the gatherable substrate is caused to pass between the thus delaminated strands of the multi-strand elastic yarn. The elasticised web of the present invention is particularly suitable for use in disposable absorbent articles.

摘要： An apparatus for attaching a tag (T) and a thread length (S) to a web of filter material (W) with one end of the thread length secured to the tag and the other end being secured to the web adjacent one side edge of the web and the tag being attached to the web adjacent the opposite side edge. The apparatus has a gripper for drawing the tag, with the thread secured thereto, across the web from that one edge to an extended position beyond the opposite side edge before returning the tag to a final extended position over the web. The apparatus also has a mechanism (24) for attaching the tag to the web in the final position, a displacement mechanism for the gripper means that has a first linear guide on which the gripper is slidable, and a second inner guide that is transverse to the first guide and fixedly located in the apparatus. The gripper is movable in the mutually transverse directions of the guides, both transversely across the web to the extended and final positions and longitudinally of the web away from the tag-attaching mechanism.

摘要： An apparatus and method for ultrasonically forming a surgical suture tip from a length of unfinished surgical suture material. The apparatus includes a first tipping die having a first face for contacting a portion of the length of unfinished surgical suture material. A second tipping die having a second face is also provided. The first and second die also having extending therefrom a first member and a second member. The first and second dies cooperate with the first and second members to form a length of suture. At least one mechanical actuator is provided for moving the first face of the first tipping die and the third face of the first member toward the second face of the second tipping die and the fourth face of the second member. A second actuator vibrates at least one of the first and second tipping dies at an ultrasonic frequency of about 15 KHz to about 70 KHz. The method of ultrasonically forming a suture tip comprises the positioning a surgical suture between the first, second, third and fourth faces of the tipping apparatus then vibrating the dies at an appropriate frequency.

摘要： A tagged packet carries a tag (T) which is attached to the main body (B) of the packet by a thread (S). The thread comprised polypropylene so as to be attachable by heat sealing to the body. The body is made up of layers of sheet material also comprising thermoplastic material to allow the body to be closed by heat seals. The thread is secured to the face of the body at one edge at the same time as that edge is heat sealed and the heating for the thread seal is applied from the opposite face of the body whereas the adjacent regions of edge seal spaced from the thread has the heating applied through the first face. This arrangement gives closer control of the different conditions required for securing the thread and for sealing together only the sheet material of the body.
