The method includes filling the sample, solvent, inhibitor, and precipitant reservoirs, respectively, with a sample, solvent, inhibitor, and precipitant; rotating the disc (102) to generate centrifugal force to cause the sample, solvent, inhibitor, and precipitant to travel radially outward to the analysis chamber (120); and measuring the optical transmission of a mixture of the sample, solvent, inhibitor, and precipitant in the analysis chamber (120) as a function of radial distance of the analysis chamber (120).

The method can include introducing ceramic proppant and a chemical treatment agent to a mixing vessel, mixing the ceramic proppant and the chemical treatment agent in the mixing vessel to provide a mixture, introducing microwave energy to the mixing vessel to heat the mixture to a temperature sufficient to produce infused ceramic proppant containing at least a portion of the chemical treatment agent, and withdrawing the infused ceramic proppant from the mixing vessel.

Functionalized alpha-hydroxy alkyl ethers have been found to perform as non (or anti-) scaling hydrogen sulfide scavengers. A method of scavenging hydrogen sulfide includes contacting a fluid containing hydrogen sulfide with a treatment fluid including a functionalized alpha-hydroxy alkyl ether. Accordingly, the alpha-hydroxy alkyl ether reacts with the hydrogen sulfide to reduce the amount of hydrogen sulfide in the fluid. The functionalized alpha-hydroxy alkyl ether is functionalized with a phosphate group, phosphonate group, sulfate group, or sulfonate group. A broad range of alpha-hydroxy alkyl ethers are disclosed.

A method of reducing the amount of sulfhydryl compounds from sour hydrocarbon fluids is described. In the method, an aldehyde-releasing compound, which is high temperature stable and is highly water-soluble, is introduced to a hydrocarbon fluid stream as a scavenger for sulfhydryl compounds. The aldehyde-releasing compound is allowed to mix with the hydrocarbon fluid stream and the aldehyde-releasing compound is allowed to react with the sulfhydryl compounds present in the hydrocarbon fluid stream, thereby reducing the presence sulfhydryl compound in the hydrocarbon fluid stream.

Iron chelating agents selected from the group consisting of ferrous lactate, ferrous gluconate, ferrous bis glycinate, ferrous citrate, ferrous acetate, ferrous fumarate, ferrous succinate, ferrous sacchrate, ferrous tartarate, ferrous glycine sulfate, ferrous glutamate, ferrous ascorbate, ferrous polymaltose, or a combination thereof, may be used. When the fluids are oil based, the iron chelating agents are added to the water phase of an emulsion, and the emulsion is added to the fluid. Viscosifiers may also be added to the drilling fluid with the emulsion.

The use of neutral aqueous solutions of glyoxal (pH approximately 6 to 8.5) scavenges H 2 S that is present in natural gas and in oil better than glyoxal alone or base alone. The resulting scavenger combination significantly increases the reaction rate and the overall scavenging efficiency, i.e. capacity over glyoxal used alone. A buffer may be optionally used. In another embodiment, the combination of non-nitrogen-containing surfactants and glyoxal results in a significant increase in the reaction rate and the overall scavenging efficiency, i.e. capacity as compared to glyoxal used alone.
