The invention further concerns a displacement arrangement which displaces the web (8) by one web width without turning it.

An electrographic printing device is designed to print recording media (10) shaped as tapes of various widths in various printing modes, such as one-colour and multi-colour simplex and duplex printing and simultaneous printing of two recording tapes in parallel. For that purpose, the units of the printing device, such as intermediate support (11), duplicating station (15) and fixing station (18), have a useful width at least twice the width of a narrow recording medium. The printing device further has a deflecting device (28) downstream of the fixing station (18) which may be switched on if required and to which is associated a return channel to the duplicating station (15). The recording medium (10) is turned and supplied back to the duplicating station (15) through said return channel in the one-colour and multi-colour duplex printing modes.

The preheating plate (20, 21) and the brake unit (10) form a sliding surface (23). Good contact between the sliding surface (23) and the substrate is provided by suction apertures (18, 19) coupled to an underpressure-generating device. A valve (1) may be used to adapt the underpressure to the operating parameters of the printer and copier and those of the substrate.
