    摘要: A method and image processing apparatus for creating simplified representations of an existing virtual 3D model for use in occlusion culling. The existing virtual 3D model is received and a visual hull construction is performed on the existing virtual 3D model using an approximate voxel volume consisting of a plurality of voxels, the voxel volume fully encloses the existing virtual 3D model, and a set of projections from a plurality of viewing angles to provide a visual hull of the existing 3D model. The volumetric size of the visual hull of the existing 3D model is increased to envelop the existing virtual 3D model to provide the visual hull as an occludee model, and the volumetric size of the visual hull of the existing 3D model is decreased to be enveloped by the existing virtual 3D model to provide the visual hull as an occluder model. The occludee model and the occluder model are used during runtime in a 3D virtual environment for occlusion culling. The present invention provides simplified representations for occlusion culling in a simple and computationally cost effective manner.

    摘要: A collection of photos and a three-dimensional reconstruction of the photos are used to construct and texture a mesh model. In one embodiment, a first digital image of a first view of a real world scene is analyzed to identify lines in the first view. Among the lines, parallel lines are identified. A three-dimensional vanishing direction in a three-dimensional space is determined based on the parallel lines and an orientation of the digital image in the three-dimensional space. A plane is automatically generated by fitting the plane to the vanishing direction. A rendering of a three-dimensional model with the plane is displayed. Three-dimensional points corresponding to features common to the photos may be used to constrain the plane. The photos may be projected onto the model to provide visual feedback when editing the plane. Furthermore, the photos may be used to texture the model.

    摘要: Aspects herein use a feature detection system to visually identify a feature on a component. The feature detection system includes at least two cameras that capture images of the feature from different angles or perspectives. From these images, the system generates a 3D point cloud of the components in the images. Instead of projecting the boundaries of features onto the point cloud directly, the aspects herein identify predefined geometric shapes in the 3D point cloud. The system then projects pixel locations of the feature's boundaries onto the identified geometric shapes in the point cloud. Doing so yields the 3D coordinates of the feature which then can be used by a robot to perform a manufacturing process.
