The invention also relates to a method for producing a sensor element (10), whereby the sensor element (10) has a diffusion barrier (41) that is removed by a laser (81) in order to set the diffusion resistance of the diffusion barrier (41). The invention also relates to another method with which a diffusion barrier (41) is placed between a first and a second solid-electrolyte film (21, 22). A covering layer (44) is placed on a side of the diffusion barrier (41) facing a gas to be measured located outside of the sensor element (10). This covering layer is gas-impermeable or at least largely gas-impermeable after a sintering process.
