摘要: A method of transmitting media content is provided that provides for a significantly reduced chunk size. The method includes receiving one or more adaptive transport streams into a memory buffer at a HTTP streamer from a media preparation unit. The received transport streams include a plurality of switchable segments each comprising one or more delivery chunks, the switchable segments being marked with segment boundary points and the delivery chunks being marked with chunk boundary points. One or more of the delivery chunks are then transmitted from a requested switchable segment to a requesting client device until a terminating segment boundary point is reached, wherein each delivery chunk is independently decodable, and a client device can begin decoding and rendering received delivery chunks even when the HTTP streamer has not yet completely received the entire requested switchable segment from the media preparation unit.

摘要: Systems and methods for using a dispersion compensation circuit to directly modulate a laser. Techniques include calibrating a varactor bias point in a dispersion compensation circuit during manufacturing, but positioning the dispersion compensation circuit between a first attenuator and a second attenuator. Each attenuator, capable of reducing power of an input signal, may be adjustable so that the attenuation provided by each attenuator may be adjusted. The ratio of attenuation between attenuators may be adjusted based on either chirp of a laser or fiber length, and a varactor bias point may be adjusted by the other one of the chirp of the laser or fiber length. Thus, both chirp and fiber length may serve as a basis for adjusting attenuation between attenuators having a dispersion compensation circuit positioned between them.

摘要: Powering an active/splitter and providing information to ONUs to cause adjustments to ONU operating wavelengths. An ONU may identify the port of a splitter to which the ONU is connected in order to make wavelength adjustments. Various techniques enable the ONU to identify from which port the ONU is receiving signals, such as a splitter that splits signals to ONUs in a cable network and signals to one or more ONUs the port to which it is connected. The splitter may lack electrical power and may perform the signal function by harvesting optical power from optical power provided to the splitter. In this manner, an active splitter may behave passively with respect to powering components in the absence of electrical power.
