Embodiments of the invention describe apparatuses, optical systems, and methods for utilizing a dynamically reconfigurable optical transmitter. A laser array outputs a plurality of laser signals (which may further be modulated based on electrical signals), each of the plurality of laser signals having a wavelength, wherein the wavelength of each of the plurality of laser signals is tunable based on other electrical signals. An optical router receives the plurality of (modulated) laser signals at input ports and outputs the plurality of received (modulated) laser signals to one or more output ports based on the tuned wavelength of each of the plurality of received laser signals. This reconfigurable transmitter enables dynamic bandwidth allocation for multiple destinations via the tuning of the laser wavelengths.

The method includes: establishing a media channel between a first node and a second node, wherein the first node is the source node of the media channel, the second node is the destination node of the media channel, and the media channel passes the frequency slot matrix of the one or more intermediate nodes between the first node and the second node and the optical fiber between any two nodes; and allocating frequency spectrum to the media channel from the available frequency spectrum of the optical fiber, wherein the media channel supports at least one single signal frequency slot. The solution can address the problem of how to effectively plan and manage frequency spectrum for an introduced flexible grid technology.

In the interconnection system, to-be-transmitted data is converted into a data packet in an optical signal form for transmission, and a control packet corresponding to the data packet is transmitted in an electrical signal form and includes routing information of the data packet. When the control packet passes through a switching node, the switching node directly determines, according to the routing information in the control packet, a neighboring node that serves as a next hop, and opens, in the switching node, an optical path used to transmit the data packet for transmitting the data packet. Because no optical-to-electrical or electrical-to-optical conversion needs to be performed on the control packet and the data packet during an entire transmission procedure, problems of an extra delay and power consumption caused by electrical-optical-electrical conversion can be reduced, thereby improving data transmission efficiency.
