Ruthenium/activated charcoal (Ru/AC) treated with synthesized nano -ZnO ( n -ZnO) is used for the first time as a novel composite catalyst in one-step self-condensation of acetone (DMK) to methyl isobutyl ketone in the gas phase. The DMK self-condensation was performed under atmospheric pressure, in a tubular glass fixed-bed microreactor, under DMK and H 2 continuous flow at temperature in the range of 523 to 648 K. Addition of n -ZnO to Ru/AC resulted in a pronounced increase in the degree of dispersion of Ru and in the acidic/basic sites concentration ratio. For the one-step synthesis of MIBK at 623 K, the composite catalyst with 2.5 wt% Ru loading was an active and selective bi-functional composite catalyst with balanced acid/base and hydrogenation properties. At 523 K, isopropyl alcohol, product of DMK-direct hydrogenation, was produced in high selectivity for instantly investigated composite catalyst. The catalytic performance depended on the composite catalyst identity, DMK flow rate, H 2 flow rate, and reaction temperature.

An allyl acetate production catalyst comprising at least (a) palladium, (b) gold, (c) a compound containing at least one element selected from copper, nickel, zinc and cobalt, (d) an alkali metal salt compound and (e) a carrier, is produced by a process comprising step 1 in which a homogeneous solution of a palladium-containing compound and a gold-containing compound is supported on a carrier by contact therewith, step 2 in which the carrier obtained in step 1 is contacted with an alkali solution for impregnation, step 3 in which the carrier obtained in step 2 is subjected to reduction treatment, and step 4 in which a compound containing at least one element selected from copper, nickel, zinc and cobalt and an alkali metal salt compound are supported onto the carrier obtained in step 3. The obtained allyl acetate production catalyst has minimal reduction in activity and improved selectivity, when used for production of allyl acetate from propylene, oxygen and acetic acid.

Disclosed is a process for production of a cycloolefin comprising the step of performing the partial hydrogenation of a monocyclic aromatic hydrocarbon with hydrogen in the presence of a ruthenium catalyst, water and a metal sulfate to produce the cycloolefin, wherein the concentration of chlorine ions dissolved in the catalyst-containing water is adjusted to 300 wt ppm or less and the catalyst is partially or entirely regenerated and re-used to prevent the decrease in the activity of the catalyst and the selectivity for a cycloolefin. Preferably, the metal sulfate is zinc sulfate and the raw materials and the catalyst to be used in the reaction are reduced in the chlorine ion content. In the process, the decrease in the activity of the catalyst and the selectivity for a cycloolefin can be prevented for a long period of time. The activity of the catalyst and the selectivity for a cycloolefin after the catalyst regeneration can also be maintained at high levels. Thus, a cycloolefin can be produced with good efficiency over a prolong period of time.

The invention relates to a composition containing zirconium oxide, silicon oxide and an oxide of an element M selected from titanium, aluminium, tungsten, molybdenum, cerium, iron, tin, zinc, and manganese, in the following mass proportions of said different elements: silicon oxide : 5%-30%; de M-element oxide : 1%-20%; the balance consisting of zirconium oxide. The composition further has an acidity, as measured by the methylbutynol test, of at least 90 %. The composition can be prepared according to a method that involves placing a zirconium compound, a silicon compound, an M-element compound and a basic compound in a liquid medium, thereby generating a precipitate; maturing said precipitate in a liquid medium; and separating and calcining the precipitate. The composition can be used for processing the exhaust gases of diesel engines.
