The bar train includes a section overlying a vacuum box (20) in the tank (12) which also is overlain with a filter media (48) to remove particles not removed by the separator. The bar train may be mounted to a flight conveyor (50) included in the filter, or alternatively have its own support and drive. A scraper station (82) is located at a discharge end of the tank (12) for removal of accumulated particles from the bars (72). Scraper blocks are slidably mounted on the bars (72) and remain there throughout the machine cycle, each of the blocks successly engaged with a plate on a band cylinder as the bars are moved into the scraping station (82). The cylinder is stroked to wipe the bars at the scraper station.

An apparatus and method for performing a magnetic cell separation process using paramagnetic beads, and having multiple steps or activitites which are required to complete the process successfully includes using a programmable machine (10) to either perform selected ones of the multiple steps itself; or to prompt a human attendant to perform others of said steps in sequence and to thereafter provide to the machine a verification input that the step to be performed by the human attendant is completed. The repeatability and reliability of the process when performed by the programmable machine (10) is vastly improved in comparison to conventional laboratory practice. Additionally, the programming of the machine (10) may be altered by super visory personnel to improve the efficacy of the process, or to customize the process for the separation of a particular type of cell.

Es wird eine Vorrichtung beschrieben, mit welcher Schleifrückstände, d.h. Schleifschlamm der bei der Bearbeitung ferromagnetischer Werkstoffe entsteht, aufbereitet werden kann. Solche Schleifrückstände sind insbesondere noch mit Öl und Wasser behaftet und werden in dieser Vorrichtung in einen Trennbehälter (14) gegeben, welcher eine waschaktive Substanz bzw. Waschlösung (51) enthält. In diesem Trennbehälter (14) wird unter Mischen und Umrühren das an den Schleifrückständen anhaftende Öl gelöst. Anschließend wird in einer ersten Phase an den Behälterwänden mit Permanentmagneten (17) Magnetfelder erzeugt, in denen sich die ferromagnetischen Bestandteile der Rückstände anlagern. Die weiteren Bestandteile können nunmehr durch ein Filter (18) geleitet werden und dort aus der Waschlösung herausgefiltert werden. Nachdem diese Bestandteile entfernt sind, wird das Magnetfeld abgeschaltet. Die ferromagnetische Bestandteile gelangen nunmehr wieder in die Waschlösung und werden mit der Waschlösung in dieses Filter (18) oder ein weiteres Filter (19) geleitet, dort herausgefiltert und getrocknet. Die Waschlösung wird nachfolgend einem Behälter (25) zugeführt; in diesem erfolgt eine Rückgewinnung des aus den Rückständen entfernten Öls.
