The invention relates to a method and device for collecting nanoparticles which may be present in an aerosol. The invention consists of electrostatically collecting nanoparticles contained in an aerosol by a mechanism of particle charging by unipolar ion diffusion, followed by the application of a field without a corona effect, which makes it possible to deposit the particles in concentric rings on different parts of a single flat substrate oriented orthogonally to the aerosol circulation direction. The biggest particles are deposited towards the centre of the flat substrate and the finest particles towards the periphery of the flat substrate. The invention also relates to a method of operation and to the use of such a device for evaluating the exposure of workers or consumers to nanoparticles.

Provided is an exhaust gas treatment equipment for a marine diesel engine capable of providing high PM collecting rate and a PM burning process in the ship. The exhaust gas treatment equipment includes: a tubular collection unit composed of a discharge electrode for charging particulate matters contained in exhaust gas from the engine and a precipitation electrode for collecting the particulate matters charged; a PM-low-concentration exhaust gas delivery pipe and a PM-high-concentration exhaust gas delivery pipe; a PM-free scrubber provided in the PM-low-concentration exhaust gas delivery pipe; a precipitation means for separating and collecting the particulate matters detached from the tubular collection unit by using a cyclone for precipitation; a burning device for burning PM precipitated by the precipitation means; and a recirculation pipe for recirculating combustion exhaust gas generated in the burning device to the collection unit or an exhaust pipe on the upstream side of the collection unit.

An air treatment device having a plasma generator electrostatic precipitator assembly, is provided. The assembly includes an electrostatic precipitator configured to charge airborne particles in the vicinity of the electrostatic precipitator to provide charged airborne particles, and a plasma generator positioned in proximity to the electrostatic precipitator and configured for cooperation with the electrostatic precipitator. The plasma generator is configured to discharge plasma and provide an inactivation zone in the region of the plasma generator operable to inactivate airborne particles. The air treatment device includes means for directing the charged airborne particles generated by the electrostatic precipitator into the inactivation zone such that the air treatment device is adapted to generate charged airborne particles and then immediately, to direct the charged airborne particles into the inactivation zone so as to expose the charged airborne particles to plasma in the inactivation zone.
