Un épurateur des gaz d'échappement, ayant une activité catalytique, pour des moteurs à combustion interne, ayant aussi la fonction d'un silencieux d'échappement, lequel comporte deux éléments (24,40) à action catalytique constitués par des bandes (24) de tôle métallique recouverte par du matériau catalytiquement actif, enroulées en spiral et comportant nombre de saillies (25) embouties, inclinées, faisant fonction d'entretoises entre les spires d'enroulement de la bande (24) ainsi que de déflecteurs pour le flux des gaz d'échappement, et entre ces éléments (24, 40) un élément amortisseur de bruit (28-33), non dissipateur. De préférence les saillies inclinées (25) embouties dans la bande (24) de tôle constituant l'élément catalytique ont une conformation sinueuse, et la bande (24) comporte en outre, dans une région centrale entre lesdites saillies (25), des ouvertures (27) qui la traversent. L'élément silencieux non dissipateur (28-33) est constitué par nombre de chambres (30) qui se restreignent, dirigées à partir d'un passage central (29) substantiellement libre vers la périphérie du dispositif, et sa structure est réalisée moyennant nombre de disques annulaires (28) de tôle métallique, emboutis, couplés deux à deux et enfin empilés.

Die Anmeldung betrifft ein Verfahren zur Herstellung von Katalysatoren, insbesondere für die Motorabgasentgiftung, bei dem man die Aktivkomponenten sowie die Promotoren auf Trägermaterialien durch Aufdampfen im Ultrahochvakuum aufbringt. Als Trägermaterialien werden zweckmäßig netz-bzw. gewebeartige Trägermaterialien verwendet. Die bedampften Katalysatorgewebe werden für den Einbau in den Reaktor zu "Katalysatorpaketen" zusammengefügt und .die Formgebung der Katalysatorpakete den Strömungsverhältnissen im Reaktor angepaßt.

A three dimensional interstitial catalyst support and a catalyst system comprising the support for use in (specially pressure-sensitive) surface reactions involving disturbed fluid flow, especially trickle feed three phase reactions such as the hydrogenation of crotonaldehyde or butyraldehyde. The support comprises a three dimensional self-supporting form-stable interstitial (preferably knitted) wire (11, 23) structure (5, 20) in which the volume of the interstices (4a, 9a, 25, 26) is from 60 to 98 (preferably at least 85) % of the volume of the structure (5, 20). The combination of the use of wire, form-stability and an open structure allows c.sturbance to be imparted by the catalyst system with less risk of blockages, flooding or damage by attrition and hence less need to increase pressure during a reaction which is undesirable in pressure-sensitive reactions. Also a method for making the structures (5, 20) by rolling up wire cloth (1), compressing it to the pre-determined volume and annealing. Also the use of the catalysts in disturbed fluid/solid/catalysed reactions.

To produce fibres based on noble metals together with up to 30% by weight of additional alloying metals, the melting point of the metal is reduced by at least 400°C by addition of boron or phosphorus as alloying constituent before drawing of the fibres from a melt and the boron or the phosphorus is removed again from the fibres.
