A pair of tubular products (1a,1b) of polyarylene sulfide having end faces to be welded are welded to each other by heating the end faces by a hot plate (7) in no contact with the end faces to a surface temperature which is at least the melting heat-absorption peak temperature and at most 80 °C above the melting initiation temperature of the polyarylene sulfide, and abutting the end faces under a pressure of 50 - 1500 kPa when the end faces are at a surface temperature which is at least 10 °C above the melting initiation temperature and not exceeding the melting heat-absorption peak temperature of the polyarylene sulfide. As a result, a welded tubular structure having a weld with a small inside bead (9) but having a sufficiently large weld strength can be obtained with substantially no thermal degradation and at a good operating efficiency.

A method of producing an aqueous solution of slaked lime is disclosed the steps of which includes introducing water into a slaked lime-dissolving apparatus comprising a dissolving tank (1), a water supply piping (2) connected to a lower part of the tank, a stirring blade (3) disposed within the tank in its bottom part, an effluent piping (6) connected to an upper part of the tank for discharging aqueous slaked lime solution, and a fluidized slaked lime layer height-control device (5) disposed within the tank above the stirring blade, subsequently introducing a predetermined amount of slaked lime into the tank, feeding water, with low-speed stirring, to the tank from the water supply piping in such a rate that the water in the cylindrical or rectangular upper part of the tank ascends at a rate of from 0.25 to 1.2 mm/sec, and taking out an aqueous solution of slaked lime from the tank through the effluent piping.

Disclosed herein is a process for the production of a granular poly(arylene thioether) copolymer by polymerizing an alkali metal sulfide with dihalo-aromatic compounds including at least one dihalo-aromatic carboxylic acid in a polar solvent containing water. Upon the polymerization, at least a part of the dihalo-aromatic carboxylic acid is converted into an alkaline earth metal salt in advance, the hydroxide and/or oxide of an alkaline earth metal is added together with the dihalo-aromatic carboxylic acid to the polymerization reaction system, or the hydroxide and/or oxide of an alkaline earth metal is added together with an alkaline earth metal salt of the dihalo-aromatic carboxylic acid and the dihalo-aromatic carboxylic acid to the polymerization reaction system.
