    摘要: A web transfer mechanism provides, in a flexible sheet material dispenser, automatic transfer of web feed from a working roll to a reserve roll, using a sensor plate operatively coupled with a transfer arm. A sensor plate providing a pivotable stub roll receptacle cover senses the absence of web from the stub roll at a pre-feed portion between the stub roll and a feed roll nip to activate a transfer of feed to the web of a reserve roll. The transfer is initiated by a transfer arm that advances the reserve web into the proximity of the feed roller nip. The pre-feed sensing position of the sensor plate makes the web transfer mechanism well suited to adaptation to known dispenser types including a web cutting knife which emerges from within the feed roller. At the same time, double feed of web material at the time of transfer is minimized. In a second aspect, a movable front shield opens automatically upon opening of the outer dispenser cover, presenting an opening for pre-transfer placement and retention of a leading edge of web material from the reserve roll. Upon closure of the dispenser cover, the front shield returns to a closed position placing the transfer arm in a pre-transfer set position.

The process is particularly suitable for making high bulk products form difficult to process furnishes such as recycle furnishes and for making high basis weight products without compressive dewatering with a papermaking felt.

    摘要: A process for producing high bulk cellulosic fiber exhibiting a durable elevated curl index includes: (a) concurrently heat treating and convolving cellulosic fiber pulp at elevated temperature and pressure at high consistency under conditions selected so as to preclude substantial fibrillation and attendant paper strength and fiber bonding development; and (b) recovering the pulp wherein the length weighted curl index of the treated fiber is at least about 20% higher than the length weighted curl index of the fiber prior to the heat treatment and convolving thereof. The curl imparted to the fiber persists upon treatment for 30 minutes in a laboratory disintegrator at 3000 rpm at 1% consistency at a temperature of 125°F. Moreover, the curl may be imparted to the fiber in a disk refiner at very short residence times, on the order of several seconds or less. In general, the process is carried out in the presence of saturated steam at a pressure of from about 5 to about 150 psig.

    摘要: A dispenser for rolls of flexible sheet material has a feed roller (30) with a pair of pinch rollers (74,76) spaced around the feed roller periphery to guide a web (W) of the material from a supply roll (R) to the dispenser exit (20). A cutting blade (40) is slidably mounted within the feed roller to move in a path parallel to and offset from a radius of the feed roller with cam followers (62) movable with the blade and extending beyond the ends of the feed roller disposed to reciprocate along this radius. Stationary cams are mounted adjacent the ends of the feed roller engaged with the cam followers, respectively, to positively project the blade cutting edge beyond the feed roller periphery to cut the web and retract such edge as the feed roller is rotated by drawing on the web at the dispenser exit.
