Abstract:
A process comprises (a) applying a coating consisting essentially of at least one hydrophobic material to at least a portion of at least one surface of a substrate to form a water repellent layer; (b) disposing a plurality of particles on the water repellent layer, the particles being selected from porous particles, particle aggregates, and mixtures thereof; (c) at least partially embedding the particles in the water repellent layer; (d) at least partially hardening the water repellent layer; and (e) removing the at least partially embedded particles to form a microstructured coating; wherein the microstructured coating comprises a plurality of cavities that taper from the exposed surface of the coating toward the substrate.
Abstract:
Cellulose mixed esters are disclosed having low molecular weights and low degrees of polymerization. These new cellulose mixed esters include cellulose acetate propionate and cellulose acetate butyrate. The esters exhibit solubility in a wide range of organic solvents with minimal viscosity increase, are compatible with a wide variety of resins, and are useful in coatings and inks compositions as binder resins and rheology modifiers.
Abstract:
The present invention provides for a resin mixture that comprises a highly structured resin 40 and a less structured resin 50. The highly structured resin 40 and the less structured resin 50 are mixed to a ratio of between 1:9 and 4:1 by volume, with a more particular ratio of 1:5 to 3:1. The highly structured resin forms ordered micro regions and the ordered micro regions impose order on surrounding less structured resin molecules. The micro regions are essentially groups of the HS resin that will naturally form order structures.
Abstract:
The present invention includes a two-layer imageable element, including: a substrate, a top layer including a first thermally imageable composition including (a) a first thermally sensitive supramolecular polymer or (b) a thermally imageable composition free of the first thermally sensitive supramolecular polymer; and disposed between the substrate and the top layer, a bottom layer including a second thermally imageable composition, which includes a second thermally sensitive supramolecular polymer. The present invention also includes a method of producing the imaged element.
Abstract:
It is an object of the present invention to provide a coating composition which can attain low friction performance without impairing the functions of a conventional coating composition, a coated film formed by using the same and a method of reducing friction in water. A coating composition containing an organic polymer particle, wherein said organic polymer particle has the solubility at 23°C in the artificial seawater specified in ASTM D1141-98 of 15 g/liter or less, the water-absorbing amount for the artificial seawater specified in ASTM D1141-98 of 0.01% by mass or more and a particle diameter of 0.05 to 100 µm.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a decorative coating which is embodied in such a way that it can be detached without leaving any residue. The detachability of the inventive coating is created by the use of an aqueous binding agent system consisting of natural and synthetic organic polymers, and by the small proportion of said aqueous binding agent system. Compared to known coatings, the inventive coating is especially processing-friendly as it is characterised by a very long processing time, by residue-free, clean and easy detachability, simultaneously protecting the surface beneath, and by individual shaping possibilities. The inventive coating can be detached simply by moistening and removing. The inventive composition is especially used as decorative floating plaster or structural plaster in inner spaces.
