Abstract:
A lubricating oil composition for an internal combustion engine, which includes a base oil, (A) at least one member selected from the group consisting of disulfide compounds represented by the general formula (I):
R 1 OOC-A 1 -S-S-A 2 -COOR 2 (I)
and disulfide compounds represented by the general formula (II):
R 7 OOC-CR 9 R 10 -CR 11 (COOR 8 )-S-S-CR 16 (OOR 13 )-CR 14 R 15 COOR 12 (II),
and (B) at least one member selected from the group consisting of alkali metal-based detergents and alkaline earth metal-based detergents, the component (B) being present in an amount of 10 to 2,000 ppm by mass in terms of metal content. The lubricating oil composition has a low ash content, a low phosphorous content and a low sulfur content. But, Nonetheless, it can maintain wear resistance, has excellent heat resistance, can extend the lubricating oil change interval and has a long service life.

A lubricating oil composition, especially a low-phosphorus low-sulfur type lubricating oil composition suitable for use as a lubricating oil for internal combustion engines, which is excellent in oxidative stability, base number retentivity, wearing resistance, extreme-pressure properties, and anticorrosive properties. The lubricating oil composition comprises a lube base oil and, incorporated therein, (A) at least one member selected among metal salts of sulfur-free acid organophosphorus compounds, (B) at least one member selected among phosphorus-containing carboxylic acid compounds and metal salts thereof, and (C) at least one member selected among antioxidants.

A novel highly grafted, functionalized olefin polymer is provided comprising the reaction product of a method comprising reacting an acylating agent with a mixture comprising an olefin polymer having a number average molecular weight of between about 5,000 to about 100,000 and a diluent in the presence of a free radical initiator to provide an acylated olefin polymer which is further reacted with a polyamine to provide the grafted functionalized olefm polymer dispersant. Lubricating oil concentrates and compositions containing the highly grafted, functionalized olefin polymer and uses thereof also are provided.

A gear oil lubricant composition and method of operating a vehicle with the composition. The composition may include a first olefinic lubricant having a viscosity ranging from about 80 centistokes to about 150 centistokes at 100 °C and a second olefinic lubricant having a viscosity ranging from about 2 centistokes to about 15 centistokes at 100 °C. A ratio of the first olefinic lubricant to the second olefinic lubricant may range from about 2:1 to about 8:1. Additionally, the composition may include an alkylated naphthalene base oil, a boronated ashless dispersant, at least one hindered phenol antioxidant, at least one alkylated diphenylamine antioxidant, and a gear oil additive package, the composition having an active phosphorus content of less than about 700 ppm and an active sulfur content of less than about 3 wt. %. The gear oil lubricant composition may contain less than about 0.1 percent by weight antioxidant composition based on a total weight of the lubricant composition.

A lubricating oil composition which comprises a base oil, (A) a specific alkali metal salicylate derivative, a specific alkaline earth metal salicylate derivative and/or their (per)basic salt in an amount of 0.005 to 5 mass % in terms of the amount of the metal element and (B) a phosphorus-containing wear inhibitor in an amount of 0.005 to 0.2 mass % in terms of the amount of phosphorus, has a total sulfur content of 0.3 mass % or less, and satisfies specific requirements, all the percentages being relative to the total amount of the composition. The lubricating oil composition is a low sulfur lubricating oil which is extremely excellent in wear inhibiting property and also excellent in long drain property and the like, and thus can be suitably used in particular for an internal combustion engine.
