Abstract:
An overbased magnesium sulfonate detergent is made by (A) preparing a mixture of a sulfonic acid or salt with a magnesium oxide, water, a C 1 -C 5 alkanol, a hydrocarbon solvent, and a combination of a polyisobutene succinic anhydride of molecular weight (M w ) 500 to 1500 g mol -1 and a salicylic acid as first and second promoters; and (B) carbonating the mixture with an acidic gas to form the overbased magnesium sulfonate.
Abstract:
The invention relates to the use of one or more fatty amines that are soluble in a lubricating composition for preventing and/or reducing the metal losses of the parts of an engine, preferably of a marine engine. The invention also relates to a process for preventing and/or reducing the metal losses of the parts of an engine, in particular of a marine engine in which said parts are brought into contact with one or more fatty amines that are soluble in a lubricating composition.
Abstract:
The invention is directed to a zinc-free lubricating composition for an internal combustion engine containing a phosphorus anti-wear agent, an ashless antioxidant, and a metal-free basic detergent. The lubricating composition provides wear protection, deposit control, and improved acid control with reduced levels of metal-containing additives.
Abstract:
The pour points of lubricating compositions are significantly improved when Group III and GTL base stocks are formulated with alkyl alkaline earth metal detergents. In a preferred embodiment, calcium alkyl salicylate detergents are used.
Abstract:
This disclosure is directed to a lubricant composition having improved compatibility with fluoropolymer seals. The lubricant composition includes a base oil and a sulfonate ester. The disclosure is also directed to an additive package for a lubricant composition that provides improved compatibility with fluoropolymer seals. The additive package includes the sulfonate ester. The disclosure is also directed to a method of improving compatibility of a lubricant composition with a fluoropolymer seal disposed in an internal combustion engine. The sulfonate ester improves the compatibility with fluoropolymer seals of the resultant lubricant composition.
Abstract:
