Abstract:
A lubricating oil composition that hardly generates precipitation attributable to a molybdenum compound under the low temperature environment and is excellent in a friction-reducing effect under the low temperature environment is provided. The lubricating oil composition is one including (A) a lubricating base oil, (B) a molybdenum-based compound, (C) a metal-based detergent, and (D) an ester compound having one or more hydroxyl groups in a molecule thereof, wherein the metal-based detergent (C) includes (C1) a calcium detergent and (C2) a magnesium detergent, and a content of the ester compound (D) having one or more hydroxyl groups in a molecule thereof is 0.03 to 1.20 mass% on a basis of the total amount of the lubricating oil composition.
Abstract:
The use of borated dispersant, preferably in combination with polyalkylenyl succinic anhydrides, to stabilise an additive concentrate which includes a salicylate detergent and a nitrogen-free ashless organic friction modifier.
Abstract:
The present invention is directed to a lubricating oil additive containing a vicinal diol and a particular detergent blend; typically mixed into low viscosity base oils whereby exhibiting improved fuel economy. In this respect, disclosed is a lubricating oil composition comprising: a major amount of base oil of lubricating viscosity; a friction modifier which is selected from the group consisting of C10-C30 alkane 1,2-diols and C10-C30 alkene 1,2-diols; an overbased alkyl alkaline earth metal hydroxybenzoate detergent having a metal ratio less than 3.0; and an overbased alkyl calcium sulfonate or an overbased alkyl calcium hydroxybenzoate having a metal ratio of 3.5 or greater.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a cylinder lubricating oil for crosshead diesel engines. In addition to having conventional characteristics such as heat resistance, cleanliness, wear resistance, and the like, the cylinder lubricating oil can be used with fuel of any sulfur content and suppresses the amount of piston deposit even when the base number is excessive. In greater detail, the present invention relates to a cylinder lubricating oil composition which includes an ashless dispersant (B) and a metallic detergent (C) in a lubricant base oil (A), in which the product of the number average molecular weight, the content, and the effective concentration of the ashless dispersant (B) is at least 9000, and the endothermic peak temperature of the metallic detergent (C) as measured by DSC at a rate of temperature increase of 50°C/min is at most 460°C.
Abstract:
Trunk piston marine engine lubrication comprising a major amount of (A) an oil of lubricating viscosity that comprises an oil-soluble ester basestock, or that comprises greater than 0.1 to less than 90 mass % of an oil-soluble ester basestock and, as 50 mass % or more of the remainder of the oil of lubricating viscosity, a high saturates basestock; (B) a minor amount of a metal alkyl salicylate detergent; and (C) greater than 0.1 to less than 10 mass %, of an oil-soluble polyalkenyl-substituted carboxylic acid anhydride, wherein the or at least one polyalkenyl group is derived from a polyalkene having a number average molecular weight of from 200 to 3,000. Asphaltene precipitation in the lubricant composition, caused by the presence of contaminant heavy fuel oil, is prevented or inhibited.
Abstract:
A lubricating oil composition comprising a Group II basestock and a neutral or overbased metal hydrocarbyl-substituted hydroxybenzoate detergent having a basicity index of less than 2.
