A system enabling minimization of tune-in delay is described. Aspects of the system include a content encoder for receiving a source signal including first and second bit streams and for encoding the first and second bit streams, the encoded first bit stream including a decoder refresh bit stream and the encoded second bit stream including a media bit stream. A server receives the encoded first and second bit streams and encapsulates the encoded first and second bit streams into packets. An encapsulator then receives the packets and composes a time-sliced multi-protocol encapsultation (MPE) stream by replacing a spliceable picture from the encoded second bit stream.

In the transmission of ESG fragments, the identifier ('ID'), version, and/or uniform resource identifier ('URI') values associated with the ESG fragments for transmission are processed and compared. The ESG fragments are encapsulated in a service guide delivery unit ('SGDU') based on the processing and comparison of the values. Likewise, an SGDU can be received at a receiver, data pertaining to the ID, version, and/or URJ values of the SGDU and associated ESG fragments may be extracted and compared to previously stored values. The SGDU and ESG fragments may then be processed in accordance with the comparison results.

The waveguide feed may include means for converting a transmission mode of a first frequency band from a first transmission mode to a mixed transmission mode.

Such a test interface may also be used to output respective channel signals in a multiplexed signal received from a communications apparatus. The test interface permits the provision and/or monitoring of a large number of channel signals without separate respective connections to the communications apparatus. This may be particularly useful where tests are performed in a constrained space and/or where repeated access to the apparatus is impractical, e.g. in a vacuum chamber. The simultaneous provision of many channel signals may allow evaluation of co-channel interference.
