摘要： An enhanced telephony (ET) computer user interface that seamlessly integrates features of a personal computer (PC) and a telephone into a coherent user interface. The user is provided with a rich variety of functionality that leverages the fact that the PC has considerably more processing power and greater access to variety of data than the ordinary telephone. This processing power and data access is used to the user's advantage as the telephone's capabilities and functionality are greatly expanded. In general, the ET user interface includes a plurality of environments for the user to choose. These environments include a My Contacts environment, a communication preferences environment, and a Call History environment. Each of these environments contains certain available processes and features for controlling and managing telephones.

Under one embodiment, a system and method receives telephone calls or other information streams including spoken address information. The spoken address information includes electronic addresses, for example, telephone numbers. The extracted address information is subsequently available for use in automatically coupling a receiving communication device toelectronic devices accessed by or associated with the extracted address information.

Thus the recipient of a message which includes an applet might typically be presented with a call back button. 摘要： An electronic messaging system, and related method, employs a handwriting server component on a network operable with an email host server (120), and a handwriting client component operable with an email client on a client computer (110) connected to the network. The client component sets up a graphical data capture area into which a user can enter handwritten or handdrawn input through a suitable graphical input device. The handwritten or handdrawn input is captured and sent as pixel data or an attached graphic file with an email message. The preferred form of the handwriting messaging component is as a Java applet downloaded to the web page of the email client or installed as a plug-in with the email client. The graphical email message may be sent to a server having a Java-based handwriting server component, a Domino server, a real-time messaging server, a standard Internet email server, or an Internet email server with a WAP interface to wireless PDAs and other digital communications devices.
