This is a catalyst suitable for a diesel particulate filter (DPF) that traps particulate matter (PM) present in diesel engine exhaust, being a diesel engine exhaust gas particulate matter oxidation catalyst using a perovskite-type composite oxide that has an NO adsorption domain over the range of 200-450°C. This catalyst induces low-temperature combustion of PM but does not use noble metals so it is inexpensive and its constituent materials are not volatile at exhaust gas temperatures so it has superior durability. The perovskite-type composite oxide contains essentially no Na and is represented by the structural formula RTO 3 , where R comprises one or more elements selected from a group made up of La, Sr, Ba, Ca and Li, and T comprises one or more elements selected from a group made up of Mn, Fe, Co, Cu, Zn, Ga, Zr, Mo, Mg, Al and Si.

There is provided an aluminum/ceramic bonding substrate having a high reliability to high-temperature heat cycles. An aluminum member of an aluminum alloy having a Vickers hardness of 35 to 45 is bonded to a ceramic substrate having a flexural strength of 500 to 600 MPa in three-point bending. The ceramic substrate is made of high-strength aluminum nitride, silicon nitride, alumina containing zirconia, or high-purity alumina. The aluminum alloy is an aluminum alloy containing silicon and boron, or an aluminum alloy containing copper.

Material for the positive electrode of batteries is provided that has good conductivity and can be manufactured more cheaply than AgNiO 2 . The battery positive electrode material is a conductive chemical compound represented by the general formula Ag x Ni y O 2 (wherein X/Y is smaller than 1 and not smaller than 0.25). The conductive chemical compound is constituted of a crystal that has an X-ray diffraction main peak that is the same as that of AgNiO 2 (wherein X = Y = 1), and does not exhibit a Ag 2 O or AgO peak. This conductive compound can be used as an additive to impart conductivity to the silver oxide (Ag 2 O) of the positive electrode material.

A method of producing a perovskite complex oxide containing a noble metal element includes a step of heat-treating a precursor substance containing at least one rare earth element and at least one transition metal element to generate a perovskite complex oxide phase, characterized in that an amorphous substance is used as the precursor substance and the noble metal element is incorporated in the amorphous substance. The perovskite complex oxide obtained by this method contains the noble metal element in its crystal and has a BET specific surface area of greater than 10 m 2 /g.

An iron nitride system magnetic powder comprising of particles comprised primarily of Fe16N 2 (having an average particle diameter of up to 25 nm, for example) is provided, to which one or more elements selected from Si, P and Ti is adhered. The powder has a C/Fe atomic ratio of 0.5 to 30%, preferably a (Si + P + Ti)/Fe atomic ratio of 0.1 to 10%. With ΔHc defined (Hc 0 - Hc 1 )/Hc 0 x 100, the powder has a ΔHc of up to 5%, and with Δσs defined as (σs 0 - σs 1 )/σs 0 x 100, a Δσs of up to 20%. The powder can provide an ignition temperature of 140°C or above, and a tap density of 1.0 g/cm 3 or above. Hc 0 and σs 0 are the coercive force (kA/m) and saturation magnetization (Am 2 /kg), respectively, of the iron nitride system magnetic powder after adhesion, and Hc 1 and σs 1 are the coercive force (kA/m) and saturation magnetization (Am 2 /kg), respectively, of the powder after it has been stored in a thermo-hygrostat for one week at a temperature of 60°C and a relative humidity of 90%.

Composite member 2 consisting of ceramic insulator substrate 3 and two metal layers 4A and 4B such as aluminum sheets is subjected to milling in order to remove the unwanted areas of metal layer 4A (where inter-element spacings are to be formed). In order to suppress cracking due to substrate warpage, a small bottom portion of 4A is left intact as residual metal layer 4Aa which is preferably removed by etching. Milling is performed after thin-film layer of etching resist 5 is applied to the surface of metal layer 4A. By milling in two stages, a step is formed at the bottom of lateral sides of a pattern element to make a skirt which contributes to reducing external stresses.

Provided is a high-efficiency phosphor having an excitation band corresponding to the light in the ultraviolet-visible wavelength range (300 to 550nm) emitted from a light emitting part which emits a blue color or ultraviolet light. A phosphor expressed by a composition formula of Ca 0.985 SiAlN 3 :Eu 0.015 was obtained by preparing Ca nitride, Al nitride, Si nitride and Eu oxide, weighing the respective raw materials such that the molar ratio of the respective elements would be Ca:Al:Si:Eu = 0.985:3:1:0.015, mixing the raw materials under a nitrogen atmosphere, and thereafter firing the obtained mixture in a nitrogen atmosphere at 1500°C.
