The invention relates to the field of technical ceramic and to a method for recycling powdery silicon carbide waste products, such as for example, those present in abrasive slurry or in the production-related waste of silicon carbide. The aim of the invention is to provide a method for recycling powders silicone waste products, in which the powdery SiC waste products can be reused according to a simple and cost-effective method for known products and processes. The aim is achieved by means of a method for recycling powdery silicon carbide waste products, in which powdery SiC-waste products which contain at least 50 Ma.-% SiC and have an average particle size d 50 , measured by laser diffraction, of between 0.5 - 500 μm, are subjected to a thermal treatment in a vacuum or in an atmosphere rich in oxygen at temperatures of at least 2000 °C.

The invention concerns magnesium oxide - aluminium oxide - silicon oxide glass or glass ceramics based on the high-quartz mixed crystal system which can be easily mechanically processed in an intermediate stage of the crystallization process and, following complete crystallization, are in the form of high-strength, highly translucent and chemically stable glass ceramics. The glasses or ceramics are characterized in that they further comprise phosphorus and a transition metal component selected from titanium and zirconium or a mixture of the two.
