Disclosed is a polyethylene porous film having an average pore diameter of 200 nm or less, a specific surface area of 50 m 2 /g or more, and a porosity of 15% or more, each of which is measured by a mercury intrusion method at room temperature, the polyethylene porous film being obtained by forming pores only by drawing a film containing an ultrahigh molecular weight polyethylene having a viscosity average molecular weight of from 1 million to 15 million and a polyethylene having a weight average molecular weight of from 10,000 to 800,000 at a mass ratio of from 50:50 to 99:1. The polyethylene porous film is produced by molding a film using a mixture of the ultrahigh weight polyethylene and the polyethylene having a weight average molecular weight of from 10,000 to 800,000, biaxially drawing the film, then heat-treating and redrawing the film to form pores in the film.

A device for objectively judging which disease and to what degree a subject suffers and displaying it, based on a hemoglobin amount variation signal measured by an organism light measuring device. A disease judgment device comprises a feature extracting section (15) for extracting a feature of a hemoglobin waveform, a feature analyzing section (16), and a storage section (12) for storing features of every disease in a database. The feature extracting section (15) extracts a plurality of kinds of feature amounts from the hemoglobin signal of the subject measured by the organism light measuring device. The feature analyzing section (16) determines with a multivariate analysis the similarities among the extracted feature amounts and the respective feature amounts of the diseases stored in the storage section (12). The result is displayed on the display section (14) with a bar graph representing the scores of the similarities with groups of diseases.

The disclosed electrode for use in a fuel cell comprises a flexible carbon-fiber nonwoven fabric and a fuel-cell catalyst, such as a metal catalyst or a carbon-alloy catalyst, supported on the surfaces of the carbon fibers constituting the flexible carbon-fiber nonwoven fabric. Said flexible carbon-fiber nonwoven fabric is formed by carbonizing a nonwoven fabric obtained by electrospinning a composition containing: an electrospinnable macromolecular substance; an organic compound that is different from said macromolecular substance; and a transition metal. This structure allows the provision of an electrode, for use in a fuel cell, which uses a flexible carbon-fiber nonwoven fabric as a substrate and combines the functions of a gas-diffusion layer and an electrocatalyst layer.

Provided is a support for carrying a catalyst capable of achieving both durability and ease of carrying a catalyst (performance of a catalyst support) at high levels. The support for carrying a catalyst is obtained by carbonizing raw materials containing a nitrogen-containing organic substance and a metal. The support for carrying a catalyst may have a peak at a diffraction angle of around 26° in an X-ray dif fraction pattern, the peak including 20 to 45% of a graphite-like structure component and 55 to 80% of an amorphous component. In addition, the support for carrying a catalyst may have an intensity ratio of a band at 1,360 cm -1 to a band at 1,580 cm -1 (I 1,360 /I 1,580 ) in a Raman spectrum of 0.3 or more and 1.0 or less. In addition, the support for carrying a catalyst maybe obtained by carbonizing the raw materials to obtain a carbonized material, subjecting the carbonized material to a metal removal treatment, and subjecting the resultant to a heat treatment. In this case, the metal may be a transition metal.
