摘要: @ A plate is prepared by uniformly coating a substrate with a powdered material which is capable of being melted by the action of laser light. The plate is then image-wise exposed with a laser to melt the coating in selected areas. The exposed plate is used in lithographic printing plate manufacture. Thus the non-melted powder may be removed from the substrate to leave a lithographic printing image constituted by the laser light struck areas of the plate. Alternatively, the non-melted powder may be transferred and fixed to a transparent substrate which is then used to expose radiation sensitive material to form a lithographic printing plate.

摘要: improved substrates for the manufacture of radiation sensitive plates for lithographic printing plate production are obtained by anodising aluminium or aluminium alloy sheets or webs in two stages. In the first stage the electrolyte is phosphoric acid and in the second stage the electrolyte contains a major amount of phosphoric acid and a minor amount of sulphuric acid.

Bearing alloy is applied to a bush (10) by mounting the bush (10) on a support structure (14) having an upstanding mandrel (17) so as to form an annular interspace (20) for reception of the bearing alloy in liquid form. The mandrel (17) projects above the bush (10) and has certain predetermined minimum dimensions. Infrared heating is applied to the bush (10) and the mandrel (17) sufficient to prevent the liquid bearing alloy freezing on contact with any of the surfaces defining the interspace (20). After degassing the liquid alloy is controllably cooled by coolant applied to the exterior of the bush (10) and finally the metalled bush is freed from the support structure (14).

A device for (13) removing excess water from an aqueous emulsion of lithographic printing ink comprises a pair of rollers (3-4) co-operating together to form a nip. Emulsified ink is fed to the nip and is broken down into an ink phase and an aqueous phase by the pressure exerted by the nip. The aqueous phase is displaced away from the ink phase by gas jets. The ink phase remains on the surface of one of the rollers (3) and is removed and returned to the printing press.
