The apparatus includes a transmit part having means (230) for separating an unique high rate 128 kbps data flow into two distinctive 64 kbps data flows to be transmitted through both B channels. The apparatus further comprises a receive part (9999) including storage means (580, 680) for storing the data received from said digital network, means (510, 610) for measuring the difference between the two transmission delays, addressing means (570) for addressing said storage means (580, 680) in order to extract the data received through both digital channels, control means (540, 550) responsive to said measure for controlling said addressing means in order to provide a 128 kbps which is not affected by the difference of transmission delays introduced by both digital channels. The invention is particularly well suited for transmitting simultaneously multi-media data, ie voice, video and data.

A variable self-correcting on-chip circuit comprised of a plurality of digital circuit components is described, whereby electrical signals are precisely positioned with respect to one another. Electrical signals are converted into a number of pulses within a predefined time window. A first number of pulses obtained from free on-chip circuit oscillation is compared to a second number of pulses derived from a predetermined delay defined by the user. An unequal comparison generates control signals capable of advancing or retarding electrical signals. The delay adjustments account for technology, process, temperature and power supply variations. The compounded effect of these variations translates into a certain delay for which self-correction takes effect.

A platen assembly for an impact printer comprises the combination of an impact transducer (28) between the backup plate (23) and the type band (11) of a printer and an impact isolator (29) interposed between the transducer and the type band. The transducer comprises a strip of force sensitive material. The strip extends over a plurality of print positions. Electrode means in contact with the surfaces of the force sensitive material form discrete impact zones aligned with the print hammers. One of the electrode means is a continuous conductive strip on one side of the force sensitive strip. Plural conductive pads on the other side of the strip form the discrete impact zones. The transducer element can be a foil using PVF2 with etched conductive patterns forming the electrodes.
