Abstract:
A mobile device operates for communications via a WLAN with use of a WLAN transceiver portion. During such operation, the mobile device performs one or more scanning operations with use of a WWAN transceiver portion for identifying a set of cell site identifications corresponding to a plurality of base stations of one or more WWANs available in a coverage region of the WLAN. The set of cell site identifications is stored in association with a WLAN profile of the WLAN. Subsequently, while the mobile device operates for communications in a WWAN, the WLAN transceiver portion may be maintained in a low power state. During the WWAN operation, the mobile device performs one or more scanning operations with use of the WWAN transceiver portion for identifying a current set of cell site identifications corresponding to the currently-serving base station of the WWAN and one or more neighboring base stations. The mobile device compares cell site identifications of the current set with those in the stored set, and identifies if the number or percentage of matching cell site identifications of the current and stored sets meets or exceeds a predetermined threshold. If the predetermined threshold is met or exceeded, the mobile device enables operation of the WLAN transceiver portion for communications via the WLAN; otherwise, the mobile device refrains from enabling operation of the WLAN transceiver portion for communications via the WLAN. This technique may be performed in association with each WLAN profile stored in the mobile device.
Abstract:
A system is provided for concurrently connecting a user equipment to a plurality of packet data network gateways via a radio access network and a serving gateway. The system includes a processor configured to evaluate an operational parameter related to a set of network components to which the user equipment, the radio network, the serving gateway and the packet data network gateways belong. The operational parameter is used to control a user equipment to multiple packet data networks, subject to resource limitation, and QoS and PCC rules.
Abstract:
There is provided a method of controlling a power output of an inverter drive (22) operably connected via an electrical machine (16) to a component (18). The component (18) is arranged during operation to generate a variable force having one or more periodic frequency components. The method comprises determining the power output of the inverter drive (22); determining a difference between the power output and a reference power output; and controlling an output frequency of the inverter drive (22) as a function of the difference, so as to stabilise the power output during operation of the component (18). The invention may be used to help reduce the problem of lighting flicker, as encountered when an inverter drive operates on a pulsating load.
Abstract:

Abstract:
A method and system for real-time cloud bursting is provided. The method and system are directed to extending a data center with cloud computing resources by decoupling computing resources and storage devices in a virtualized data center, and booting the decoupled computing resources in a staged process while storage devices are divided and prioritized into components. Data and boot instructions are re-routed and cached as needed through a proxy system.
Abstract:
There is provided a motor drive comprising: a temperature sensor arranged to sense a temperature of the drive; a braking resistor; switching means arranged when activated to cause current to flow to the braking resistor; and controlling means arranged to activate the switching means when the sensed temperature falls below a predetermined threshold. There is also provided a method of controlling a temperature of a motor drive comprising a braking resistor. The method comprising comprises: monitoring a temperature of the drive; and activating switching means to cause current to flow to the braking resistor when the monitored temperature falls below a predetermined threshold.
Abstract:
An apparatus and method of coating and/or lining of the interior of pipes and tubular goods with a performance enhancing layer of metal alloy using a 360° radiant heat source. The use of the disclosed apparatus and methods facilitates the capability to metallurgically bond a layer of metal alloy or composite material to the interior of a steel pipe or similar metal based tubular good with a primary diameter ranging typically from 1.5" to 8". The disclosed apparatus and methods are especially useful to produce piping used in the conveyance and/or transportation of hot, corrosive and/or abrasive fluids in the oil and gas, and mining Industries.
Abstract:
In an inductively coupled power transmitter a force detector that detects the presence of a potential device by monitoring forces applied to a surface of the power transmitter and activates the inductively coupled power transmitter upon detection of a potential device. An inductively coupled power transmitter having a proximity detector that detects the presence and location of a potential device by monitoring the proximity of devices to a surface of the power transmitter and activates the inductively coupled power transmitter upon detection of a potential device. The transmitter preferably has one or more detection coils each having an area much greater than that of the transmitter coils for detecting the presence of a potential device. An inductively coupled power transmitter including a plurality of transmitter coils proximate a charging surface and a controller selecting and driving a combination of transmitter coils providing the coupling between the power transmitter and a power receiver meeting a selection criteria.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus to control power output of a power plant. A control module includes a plurality of controllers for different power parameters of the power plant and a master controller. The plurality of controllers receive measured parameters from the power plant, compare the received parameters with received set points, and provide respective reactive power commands to the power plant. The master controller determines which of the plurality of controllers is to be enabled to output a reactive power command to the power plant.
