The invention relates to a method and a device for producing spherical particles from a melted mass of plastic. According to the invention, said melted mass is transformed into droplets by means of a droplet-forming nozzle (10); after falling a certain distance, the droplets are crystallised at least on the surface thereof; the droplets are then supplied to a crystallisation stage in which they are fully crystallised; and are then supplied to an postcondensation stage wherein solid phase polycondensation takes place. In order to ensure surface crystallisation without the risk of adhesion both among the drops and to parts of the device, the drops fall in a crystallisation stage (45) having a cloth element or a sheet metal element comprising openings or a fluidised bed chamber through which gas flows in order to swirl the drops.

The invention provides a method of crosslinking two objects of interest, comprising the steps of: i) providing a fusion protein comprising at least a first protein and a second protein, wherein both the first and the second protein are, based on their structure and function, capable of forming a covalent bond with given substrates, and which first and second proteins are of substantially non-overlapping substrate selectivity, preferably of different substrate specificity; ii) providing a first object of interest, comprising a substrate moiety for the first protein of the said fusion protein, and providing a second object of interest, comprising a substrate moiety for the second protein of the said fusion protein; and iii) reacting said first protein of the fusion protein with the substrate moiety of said first object, and reacting said second protein of the fusion protein with the substrate moiety of said second object, thereby covalently crosslinking the first object to the second object via the said fusion protein. Most prominent applications of the disclosed method are, due to the straight-forward, reliable, directional and fast crosslinking reactions: the derivatization of cells, antibodies and the crosslinking of proteins.

Supplemented matrices comprising a PTH releasably incorporated therein, optionally containing a granular material, are described herein. The PTH is incorporated either through covalent linkage to the matrix or through non-covalent interaction with the matrix and/or the granules. These supplemented matrices decrease the time of healing compared to autograft and or trigger healing of bone fractures which otherwise would not heal. The matrices are biocompatible and biodegradable and can be formed in vitro or in vivo , at the time of implantation. The PTH may be a part of a fusion peptide. PTH can be incorporated into the matrices with full retention of its bioactivity. PTH can be releasably incorporated, using techniques that provide control over how and when and to what degree the PTH is released using the matrix as a controlled release vehicle to heal bone fractures.

The invention relates to a device for the thermal secondary treatment of plastic material in granulate form, in particular of polyester material such as polyethylene-terephthalate, in a flat shaft reactor comprising a substantially rectangular cross-section. The shaft (1) consists of an upper region (4) and a lower region (5), whose horizontal cross-section (Q5) tapers downwards in a vertical direction. At least sections of the vertical shaft walls (4A) and (4B) have screen-type gas dispersion regions. The large opposing shaft walls 5a and 5b of the lower outlet region (5) are likewise gas dispersion regions. The gas dispersion regions consist of wedge-wire screens, which can have different arrangements of gaps according to requirements. The special gap arrangements in the wedge-wire screens allow the standardisation of the granulate speed profile over horizontal cross-sections in the shaft region. Vibrations and impact stresses of the device are reduced by the mounting of elements ('diamonds') and the granulate speed profile is further optimised.
