The invention relates to a method and a device for checking, optionally monitoring, a network supporting WAP terminals (WAP-MS) working according to the Wireless Application Protocol (WAP) and having a WAP gateway (WAP-GW) which connects a mobile radio telephone network (PLMN) and a network that works according to Internet protocols TCP/IP, Internet or Intranet, and which adapts the protocols (WAP, HTTP) of transmitted messages (REQUEST/RESPONSE). According to the invention, the data flow progression of at least one or more processes running parallel for the transmission of data between a WAP terminal (MS) and a Web server (WEB-SRV) are recorded in the WAP terminal (MS), at the WAP-side and the Internet-side input of the WAP gateway (WAP-GW) and optionally in the Web server (WEB-SRV) and then transmitted to a management system (MMS) that is designed to process the measured data, said data being then processed therein. The method disclosed in the invention makes it possible to promptly determine the state or changes in the checked network and localize the causes of detected changes.

In a radio communication system, where a user (8, 9), who wants to transmit data, is allocated a certain transmission capacity. It is a general goal to have an efficient resource allocation algorithm. In order to serve as much subscribers of the network as possible, the allocation of the available resources is improved by determining an utilization factor, which is some kind of measure for the exploitation of the transmission capacity allocated to a user. This is done by analysing the communication activities of the user (8) by monitoring for example directly the radio link (10) between the users terminal (8) and the corresponding basestation (4) with a monitoring device (16.4). The monitoring of the communication can also be done in other locations (16.1, 16.2, 16.3, 16.5), e.g. by monitoring the communication link (7) between the basestation (4) and the mobile switching centre (MSC)(3) or by directly monitoring one or more of the lower layers of the transmission protocol stack directly within one of the devices (8, 4, 3, 5, 9) being involved in the communication of the user. Then, the allocation of the resources, which is for instance carried out by the MSC (3), is done depending on this utilization factor. When knowing the utilization factor for a specific user, the resource allocation can be improved by accordingly adjusting or modifying the underlying radio resource allocation algorithm utilized by the MSC (3).

The inventive method allows handling of text messages in a private branch exchange (PBX) that comprises a message handling system (MHS), which receives and forwards text messages originating or terminating in internal fixed or cordless terminals (T1, ..., Tn; IP-T1, ..., IP-Tn; PP1, ..., PPn) that are attached to the private branch exchange and that act as message entities. According to the present invention the message handling system receives and stores the text messages in a volatile memory of a first storage device (VM); delivers the text messages in a suitable format to an addressed internal message entity according to messaging parameters retrieved from a numbering plan that covers at least the internal message entities (T1, ..., Tn; IP-T1, ..., IP-Tn; PP1, ..., PPn), and if the delivery of the message is acknowledged by the addressed message entity, the message is deleted by the message handling system (MHS), or if the delivery of the message is not acknowledged by the addressed message entity, the message is transferred to a non-volatile memory of a second storage device (NVM), and a timer object is created that is used to deliver the message according to specific parameters with at least one further delivery attempt. In a preferred embodiment the message handling system (MHS) comprises functionalities of a Short Message Service Center SMSC.

Der Phasenregelkreis kann daher derart gestaltet werden, dass erzeugte Trägerfrequenzen schneller umschaltbar sind und eingestellte Trägerfrequenzen bei geöffnetem Regelkreis eine höhere Stabilität aufweisen. Der Phasenregelkreis ist daher insbesondere in Kommunikationsgeräten vorteilhaft einsetzbar, in denen Mehrfachzugriffsverfahren TDMA, FDMA angewendet werden, die rasche Umschaltungen und stabile Einstellungen von Trägerfrequenzen erfordern.

Bei einem Datenübertragungssystem wird mittels Messung gewisser Systemparameter laufend der QOS (Servicequalität) überwacht (15). Wird ein zu niedriger QOS festgestellt (16), werden automatisch und unverzüglich einzelne oder mehrere weitere Tests (19, 20, 21) gestartet, um diejenigen Informationen über den Systemzustand zu ermitteln, die zur Lokalisierung der Ursache für den niedrigen QOS erforderlich sind. Diese Tests umfassen neben der Messung bestimmter Systemparameter auch das Sammeln gewisser, im System bereits vorhandener Grössen. Durch einen Test können auch weitere, zusätzliche Tests (22, 23) gestartet werden, wobei die einzelnen Tests in Abhängigkeit der bereits bekannten Systemparameter derart konfiguriert werden, dass sie aussagekräftige Resultate für die aktuellen Bedingungen liefern.

An eine Telekommunikationseinrichtung (1) sind eine Mehrzahl von Terminals (6.1, 6.3, 6.5, 6.6, 6.7) angeschlossen, wobei einige Terminals (6.5) direkt via Telefonleitungen, andere indirekt über ein fremdes Kommunikationsnetz, beispielsweise ein Stromversorgungsnetz (3) oder ein Ethernet-LAN (13), an die Telekommunikationseinrichtung angeschlossen sind. Die Verbindung von der Telekommunikationseinrichtung zum fremden Kommunikationsnetz wird über entsprechende Tk-Gateways (2.1, 2.2) realisiert. Die Terminals sind ihrerseits über entsprechende Terminal-Gateways (7.1, 7.3, 7.6, 7.7) an das Kommunikationsnetz angeschlossen. Die Kommunikation zwischen der Telekommunikationseinrichtung und den Terminals erfolgt mit bekannten proprietären oder standardisierten Telefonieprotokollen, welche nicht zur Datenübertragung über das Kommunikationsnetz geeignet sind. Damit den Terminals dennoch der volle Leistungsumfang der Telekommunikationseinrichtung zur Verfügung gestellt werden kann, wird das Telefonieprotokoll mittels Tunneling in einem für das Kommunikationsnetz geeigneten Übertragungsprotokoll transparent zur jeweiligen Gegenstelle übermittelt.

According to the inventive method for the measurement of service quality in communications networks, special test connections are established from the individual user terminals to a test centre or from said test centre to the individual user terminals. Different measurements are taken during the test connection. The exact time and the geographic position of a mobile telephone at the time of measurement, diverse parameters of the air interface, error rates and field strengths on both sides of the connection as well as the uplink or downlink connection quality can be determined. The inventive measurements of quality can thus be carried out almost at any time and any location independently from the phoning habits of the mobile telephone users.

A source signal (e.g. a voice test) is processed by a voice coder (1) or transmitted and converted into a receive signal (coded voice signal). The source and receive signals are separately subjected to preprocessing (2) and to psycho-acoustic modeling (3), followed by interval calculation (4) to evaluate the similarity of the signals. Finally, MOS calculation is carried out to obtain a result that can be compared with human evaluation. According to the invention, a spectral similarity value is determined for evaluating transmission quality, which is based on calculating the covariance of the spectra source and receive signals and dividing the covariance by the standard deviation of the above-mentioned spectra. The inventive method enables objective evaluation (voice quality forecast) while taking into account the human hearing process.

Preferably, the set up process is actively terminated after the negotiation phase, before an actual link is established. Thereby, it is ensured that the use of network capacity is minimized for test links. A device for testing a cellular network system comprises a transmitter for communicating with the cellular network system, a controller for generating dedicated test requests ( 21 ) for communication links on the cellular network system and a memory for storing information about generated test requests ( 21 ) and corresponding answers ( 23 ) from a network management.
