In each of these cycles, the unit (10) causes in succession: a controlled reduction of the braking pressure when the at least one monitored wheel is in a condition of incipient locking, the holding of the pressure at a constant value until the acceleration of the monitored wheel exceeds a minimum positive threshold, and the increase of the braking pressure again. During the stage in which the braking pressure is increased again in each cycle after the first, the electronic unit (10) causes in particular: an initial pressure increase of an amount calculated on the basis of the total increase in the previous cycle and the durations of the last and penultimate periods of controlled reduction of the braking pressure, and a subsequent, slower increase in the braking pressure.
