摘要: The guidewire includes a core (12) and a coil (18) in composite cooperation to enable the guidewire (10) to be used within tortuous regions of the vasculature. The core (12) has a proximal region (14) and a distal region (16). The distal region (16) includes a flattened end (32) and a tang (36) for connecting the core (12) to the coil. The coil (18) has a proximal end, a distal end and a length extending between the proximal end and the distal end. The ratio between the proximal region and the coil diameter is 1.4:1 or greater. The guidewire includes three joints for attaching the coil to the core. A distal joint (30) attaches the distal end of the coil to the flattened end (32) of the core (12). A proximal joint attaches proximal end of the coil (18) to the core (12). A medial joint attaches the length of the coil to the tang. The three joints cooperate with the 1.4:1 ratio to improve torque transmission ability of the guidewire (10) to enable the guidewire to steer through vessels with bends of over 90 degrees and with lumen diameters of less than 3 mm.

摘要: Methods for restoring blood flow in occluded blood vessels using an apparatus having a self expandable distal segment that is pre-formed to assume a superimposed structure in an unconstrained condition but can be made to take on a volume-reduced form making it possible to introduce it with a microcatheter and a push wire arranged at the proximal end, with the distal segment in its superimposed structure assuming the form of a longitudinally open tube and having a mesh structure of interconnected strings or filaments or struts. In a preferred embodiment, the distal segment has a tapering structure at its proximal end where the strings or filaments or struts converge at a connection point.

摘要: A flow directed microcatheter (10) is formed having a gradually changing flexibility and diameter between a proximal end (A) and a distal end (B) of the microcatheter (10). The changing properties of the microcatheter (10) according to the present invention provide the flexibility of the distal tip (44) needed to allow the microcatheter (10) to be directed by the flow of blood within the vasculature, the columnar strength and torquability at the proximal end (A) and along the length of the microcatheter (10) needed to advance, and direct the distal tip to the target site. A proximal segment (A) of the microcatheter (10) includes a plurality of strands which vary in diameter to change the flexibility of the microcatheter (10). A distal segment (B) of the microcatheter (10) includes an inner layer (46) which is compatible with solvents, such as DMSO, and an outer layer (48) which provides strength and flexibility. The proximal segment (A), and the distal segment (B) of the microcatheter (10) are joined by a kink resistant fuse joint (12).

摘要: This invention is directed to novel methods for gynecologic embolotherapy. The methods directly access the blood vessels to be embolized transcervically rather than arterially. The methods provide precise directed delivery of embolizing compositions, and are particularly suited for treating uterine fibroids. Kits containing one or more devices for transcervical injection and an embolizing composition are also provided. In a preferred embodiment, fluid embolizing compositions are used. In a more preferred embodiment, these fluid embolic compositions comprise a biocompatible polymer, a biocompatible solvent and a biocompatible water insoluble constrast agent. In a most preferred embodiment, the contrast agent is characterized by having an average particle size of about 10 µm or less.
